Peter's Post

THIS SUNDAY:  BACK TO REGULAR SERVICE SCHEDULE

This Sunday, September 13, we return to our regular Sunday service schedule:  7:45am said Rite I Holy Eucharist; 9:00am Rite II Holy Eucharist with Contemporary Music; and 11:00am sung Rite II Holy Eucharist with Traditional Music.  Brittany Spicer is back leading our music this Sunday at the 9am service, and St. Peter’s Adult Choir returns to lead music at our 11am service.

BLESSINGS AND DEDICATIONS THIS SUNDAY

At the 7:45am service this Sunday the Altar Guild will present a donated kneeler that will be dedicated to the memory of John Atkins.  At the 9am service all youth are encouraged to bring their school backpacks, which Father David will bless during announcements.  All Sunday School teachers and helpers, and all Youth Leaders are asked to be present at the 9am worship service to be commissioned as parish educators.

COME TO ST.  PETER’S MINISTRY FAIR

This year there are even more ministries and happenings planned at St. Peter’s, and the Fall Ministry Fair is your chance to experience everything that is happening at your parish, and find out how you can use your time and talents in service to Our Lord and his church.  This is also the time to register for Sunday School and Youth Group, and there is a special Youth Corner planned just for youth.

The fair will go on Sunday morning from 8:30am to 11:00am and coffee and refreshments will be served downstairs at the fair.  Plan to make some time before or after the service to come to this Sunday’s Ministry Fair.

ADULT ED. SERIES ON “MARRIAGE TODAY” CONTINUES  TUESDAY

The Fall Tuesday evening Adult Education Series continues Tuesdays in the Parish Hall.  The series is on “Marriage Today.”  Potluck dinner is at 6pm – come and bring a dish to share.  The hour long class will begin aft 6:40pm.  All are welcome to attend.   This Tuesday’s class topic is Marriage in History.  We will be discussing a paper written about Christian marriage over the past 2,000 years.  Copies of the paper are available online at:
http://www.stpeterschurch.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/A-History-of-Christian-Marriage.pdf. Whether or not you can attend the class, download a copy of the paper -- it gives an interesting review of how the institution of marriage has evolved over centuries.  More information on the class can be found on the parish website: http://www.stpeterschurch.net/adult-education-series/.

DAILY PRAYER BEGINS NEXT MONDAY AT ST. PETER’S

Beginning Monday, September 14 (Holy Cross Day) we will begin to have Daily Prayer in the church.   Besides Sunday morning and Wednesday noon Holy Eucharist, we will have the following:  Monday Morning Prayer at 9:30am; Tuesday Evening Prayer at 5:30pm; Thursday Evening Prayer at 5:00pm; Friday Morning Prayer at 8:30am; and Saturday Morning Prayer at 8:30am.  Come, worship and experience this traditional Anglican liturgy throughout the week.  All are welcome.

TORCH BEARER AND CRUCIFER TRAINING SUN, SEPT 20

Boys and girls in Elementary School are eligible to serve as torchbearers at our worship services.  Youth in middle school are eligible to be crucifers.  There will be a training for all new torchbearers and crucifers in the church after the 9am service on Sunday, September 20.  Check out the Altar Servers table at the Ministry Fair for more information.  New servers must be trained before they can be put on the schedule.

MD BOYCHOIR COMING TO ST PETERS: MARK YOUR CALENDARS

The Maryland State Boychoir has just confirmed that they will join us once again this fall as the choir for our service of Evensong on Friday, November 6 at 7:30pm.  Save the date and let friends and family know.  Once again, we’ll need help to put the boys up overnight.  More details to come.

UPDATE FROM YOUR PROPERTY COMMITTEE

The Property Committee has had a full plate!  We have been striving to complete a variety of projects, both maintaining and improving our buildings and grounds.  New grass, mulch and irrigation along West Church Street have created a welcoming landscape.  The computer system and security system were upgraded which were much needed improvements. Salisbury University students worked to clean our kitchen thoroughly.  New rugs and upholstery have increased the beauty of the altar.  Carpentry repair work to the bell tower windows entailed replacing sills and lintels.  The roof was replaced over the Parish House’s second floor classroom and a hatch was installed for future access.  The elevator has been improved to keep it running smoothly.  All the lightbulbs were recently replaced to increase our energy efficiency.  We renewed our energy contract to allow us to receive the best pricing for electricity usage.   Outside painting of windows and trim is currently being completed.

Just to name a few more achievements: we fixed broken windows, replaced ceiling tiles, changed ice maker filters, fixed running toilets, trimmed unruly bushes, pulled  stubborn weeds, repaired brass door hooks, and moved heavy furniture.  Thank you to all the hard workers who made these successes possible.  We have a running list of items that need to be addressed.  We call it the “Honey Do” List.  Much like the maintenance of your home, our church needs attention and tender loving care.  If you have any time and any talent or skill, no matter how small, we welcome your help.
