DEDICATION OF ABBOTT MEMORIAL ALTAR GIFTS THIS SUNDAY

This Sunday at the 9am worship service, gifts that adorn our altar at St. Peter’s in memory of Rosalind Abbott will be dedicated.  These include the reupholstered chairs in the Sanctuary on either side of the high altar, new beautiful matching oriental rugs in the Sanctuary around the altar, and new linens for the high altar.  They are all gifts from Rosalind Abbott’s daughter, Linda Abbott.

SUNDAY SCHOOL BEGINS THIS SUNDAY

Sunday School begins this Sunday after the 9am worship service on the second floor of the Parish Education Annex Building.  Classes will be for pre-school – kindergarten, and Elementary school Grades 1-6.  Youth are asked to come to class immediately after the conclusion of the worship service so that classes may start promptly. If you weren’t able to register your child last Sunday, you are still able to come and register on the first day of classes.  Note that instruction for Middle and High School students will not take place on Sunday mornings, but will be incorporated into the Youth Group program.  Youth Group usually meets Sunday afternoons at 4pm.

YOUTH GROUP PICNIC AND KAYAKING EVENT THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON

All Middle School and High School youth are invited to the kickoff kayaking and picnic event at Tom and Mary Phillips house on the banks of the Wicomico River 2pm this Sunday. This will be the time when the Youth Group will be organized so you don’t want to miss out.  Address is 5065 Whitehaven Rd., Quantico.  This will take the place of the Youth Group’s usual 4pm meeting at the Catacombs.

DEDICATION OF WALKWAY AND GARDENS AT PARSONS CEMETERY THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON

This Sunday, September 20, at 2:00 in the afternoon, Parsons Cemetery will be dedicating the new “Parsons Memorial Walkway and Cremation Garden” on the lakeside portion of the cemetery and all are invited to attend the dedication ceremony.  Parsons Cemetery, located at 911 North Division St. in Salisbury,  is open to all faiths, but Saint Peter’s owns it and is responsible for its operation. The cemetery operates at a loss but generous donations have built an endowment that offsets that loss. This walkway is part of the Parsons Cemetery Advisory Committee's plan to increase income and further grow the endowment so that it is sufficient to care for the cemetery “in perpetuity” which is the requirement of the original gift to the church.

THANK YOU TO ALL FOR A GREAT MINISTRY FAIR

Thank you to everyone who participated in this past Sunday’s Ministry Fair in the Parish Hall.  It was well attended and provided good information and demonstrations on the various ministries and activities the parish has to offer.  A special thanks to the members of the Fellowship and Hospitality Committee for organizing and setting up the fair this year.

ADULT ED. SERIES ON “MARRIAGE TODAY” CONTINUES  TUESDAY

The Fall Tuesday evening Adult Education Series on “Marriage Today” continues Tuesdays in the Parish Hall.  Potluck dinner is at 6pm – come and bring a dish to share; class begins at 6:40pm.Topic for this Tuesday: Marriage and Culture – Changing Norms in Society.  More information on the series can be found on the parish website:

DAILY PRAYER HAS BEGUN AT ST. PETER’S

This week we begin to offer Daily Prayer in St. Peter’s Church. Besides Sunday morning and Wednesday noon Holy Eucharist, we offer:  Monday Morning Prayer at 9:30am; Tuesday Evening Prayer at 5:30pm; Thursday Evening Prayer at 5:00pm; Friday Morning Prayer at 8:30am; and Saturday Morning Prayer at 8:30am.  Come, worship and experience this traditional Anglican liturgy throughout the week.  All are welcome.

TORCH BEARER AND CRUCIFER TRAINING SUN, SEPT 20

Boys and girls in Elementary School are eligible to serve as torchbearers at our worship services.  Youth in middle school are eligible to be crucifers.  There will be a training for all new torchbearers and crucifers in the church after the 9am service on Sunday, September 20.  Registration occurred at last Sunday’s Ministry Fair, but it’s not too late to register:  you can come to the training this Sunday and sign up then.  New servers must be trained before they can be put on the schedule.

ALTAR FLOWER DONATIONS NEEDED

Every Sunday we have fresh flowers adorning our altars.  Parishioners are encouraged to donate the flowers each week in honor or memory of loved ones for the high altar and the family altar at St. Peter’s.  As of today, we have many Sundays in which no one has signed up to donate flowers.  Most of October and November are open.  If no one signs up, the Altar Guild uses money from its Altar Guild Fund to pay for fresh flowers, and its fund is rapidly being depleted.  Would you consider signing up and donating flowers for a Sunday this fall?  Perhaps to celebrate an anniversary or the memory of a loved one?  Or in thanksgiving for a blessing you have received? See the sign up sheet on the hallway bulletin board to the left of the Parlor at coffee hour for an open Sunday that you can commit and help to ensure that flowers adorn St. Peter’s altars every Sunday.  There are also envelopes available on the table outside the parlor for contributions to the Altar Guild to help defray the cost of flowers – your contribution is appreciated.
