Peter's Post

TODAY IS HOLY CROSS DAY

Collect for Holy Cross Day:

Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross that he might draw the whole world to himself: Mercifully grant that we, who glory in the mystery of our redemption, may have grace to take up our cross and follow him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL BEGINS THIS SUNDAY

Sunday School classes begin for pre-school and elementary students this Sunday at 10:15am in the Parish Education Annex on the second floor.  Trailblazers youth group for middle school and high school students begins its first meeting this Sunday afternoon at 4pm in the Catacombs in the basement of the Annex.  Trailblazers should look for an email from Nivek Johnson about other events and activities planned.

SIGN UP FOR FALL FOYER GROUPS!

Join in the fun, food, and fellowship with Foyer Groups!
Groups of 6 - 8 adults will gather monthly for dinner and socializing.  The dinners will give us a chance to get to know people from St. Peter's in a setting away from church.

Participants will be placed in groups that will stay together for the months of September through December.

Home groups: Each month a different person/couple will host the dinner and provide the drinks and simple entree.  Others in the group will provide the balance of the meal.

Restaurant groups: If you would prefer not to entertain in your home or just want to try something different, we will set up restaurant groups.  Each month a different person/couple will be the host and make the arrangements for a restaurant. Participants will pay for their own dinners.

There are only 2 "rules" for the dinners:
•    No discussion of church business
•    The evening should end by 9 PM.

There will be a sign-up sheet at during coffee hour, or you can e-mail Ann Allen at ann.allen@comcast.net or call her at 410-546-9068. Please sign up by this Sunday the 18th!

PREMIERE OF ST. PETER’S VIDEO PRESENTATION AT DISCERNMENT COTTAGE MEETINGS

A video presentation – St. Peter’s Church: Our Past, Present and Future – has been produced and can be seen exclusively as part of the Discernment Cottage Meetings now underway.  The Cottage Meetings are your opportunity to participate in discussions about our future together at St. Peter’s.  Here are the dates and times of upcoming meetings:

Wednesday, Sept. 14th (7 p.m.); and
Sunday, Sept. 18th (10:15 a.m.)

The meetings begin in the Parish Hall and should take an hour and a half or so.  We will begin with the  video presentation and then have discussions in groups of 10 to 12 led by a member of the Vestry.  Vestry members have been trained through Episcopal Church Foundation to facilitate these sessions

CARING FOR CREATION: WICOMICO RIVER CLEAN UP THIS SATURDAY

The Wicomico Interfaith Partners for Creation Stewardship which includes St. Peter’s is hosting a clean up of the Wicomico River and its downtown surroundings in conjunction with International Coastal Clean Up Day this Saturday, September 17th from 10:00am to 12:30pm.  Since this clean up will take place downtown where St. Peter’s is located, it would be wonderful to have folks from St. Peter’s taking part.  Everyone will meet at the downtown parking lot on the Wicomico River next to Market Street Inn.  Bring water, gloves, hat, sunscreen – and your boat if you wish to clean up from the water.

THIS FRIDAY IS THIRD FRIDAY

At St. Peter’s Church this Friday will be “Mad Science” activities for youth and hot dogs and hamburgers grilled and on sale for all.  Stop by and support your church this Friday from 5-8pm as we outreach to the community at Third Friday Downtown.

GOD’S ABUNDANCE AND STEWARDSHIP WORKSHOP SEPT 28

The Diocese of Easton is offering a workshop entitled God’s Abundance and Stewardship on Wednesday, September 28 from 5pm to 9pm in St. Peter’s Parish Hall.  There will be dinner at 5pm followed by a program intended to explore the connection between God’s abundance and our understanding of stewardship from a spiritual perspective.  Register by September 23.  For more information, go to http://www.stpeterschurch.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/sept-28-stewardship-workshop-info.pdf.

TUESDAY SERIES AND POTLUCK ON ISAIAH

Did you know that scholars believe that there are three authors of the book of Isaiah?  Learn about the history surrounding the book, who the three Isaiahs are, and the impact this book has had on Christianity.  Father David Michaud is teaching a six week series on discovering the “real” Isaiah in the Parish Hall every Tuesday evening and all are invited to participate in all or as many sessions as you can.  Potluck is at 6pm (bring a dish to share) and the class begins at 6:40pm.  Information on the series can be found at http://www.stpeterschurch.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Isaiah-flyer.docx.

BISHOP MARRAY’S INSTALLATION ON  OCT 15

We will be celebrating the Investiture of our new bishop, the Rt. Rev. Santosh Marray, at 11am on Saturday October 15 at Todd Performance Center, Chesapeake College, Wye Mills.  Music begins at 10:30am.  All members of parishes in the Diocese of Easton are encouraged to attend. Parishioners are encouraged to carpool and arrive early.

Lay Ministers encouraged to participate
In order to celebrate the fullness of baptized ministry in the diocese, Acolytes, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, and other Lay Ministers are invited by the Transition Committee to vest and process during the procession in the liturgy. All lay ministers are welcome to vest and process, but only those who register will be able to do so, as seats will need to be reserved.  Please email Father David at davidmichaud07@gmail.com or contact the Parish Office by Thursday, October 7 if you are interested in participating.  Father David needs to send a list of participants to the Transition Committee prior to the service.  Lay ministers from St. Peter’s will be processing behind our parish banner.
