BISHOP SANTOSH MARRAY TO VISIT THIS SUNDAY
The Rt. Rev. Santosh “San” Marray, the eleventh Bishop of Easton, visits St. Peter’s this Sunday, January 15. Please make every effort to be at St. Peter’s on that Sunday so we can give our bishop a warm St. Peter’s welcome. Bishop San will preside at all three services that Sunday: 7:45am, 9:00am, and 11:00am.
Feast of the Confession of St. Peter
This Sunday we also celebrate our Patronal Feast, honoring St. Peter at the major church feast of the Confession of St. Peter, when he proclaimed that Jesus was “the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matt 16:16). It is customary in Episcopal churches to celebrate the feast of their patron every year, and fitting that we celebrate this on the occasion of the visit of our bishop. The lessons, prayers, and music will be focused this Sunday on St. Peter.
Confirmations and Receptions
During the 9am service Bishop San will also impose the sacrament of Confirmation on two of our youth, Will Burdett and Amelia Hall, and will welcome into the Episcopal Church through reception Scott Mahler and Michael Burdett. All have been spending weeks in study and preparation. Please keep Will, Amelia, Scott and Michael in your prayers this week as they ready themselves for confirmation and reception into the church.
Lunch and Conversation with the Bishop
Bishop San He also wants to have a meeting and conversation with the entire parish assembled together, so we are planning a parish wide lunch with the bishop this Sunday at 12:30pm in the Parish Hall. The Fellowship and Hospitality Committee is asking that you bring your best side dish, salad or dessert to the lunch; the committee is arranging for entrees and beverages. Please plan to come to the lunch and hear what our bishop has to say. This is also an opportunity to ask the bishop questions and to engage in dialogue with him.
Bishop Meeting with Youth
In place of our regular Sunday School instruction this Sunday, Bishop San will be meeting with our youth during the Sunday School hour in the second floor of the Parish Annex. All youth from pre-K through high school are asked to be there at that time.
FEASIBILITY STUDY SURVEY MAILED TO PARISH HOUSEHOLDS
A feasibility study is being conducted to determine support for some major capital projects under consideration at St. Peter’s. The study is being coordinated by parishioner and Vestry member Rich Stover, who will present his findings to the Vestry in a Feasibility Study Report. An important component will be the results of a parish wide survey.
You should have received a Feasibility Study Survey in the mail this week. You are asked to complete this survey and bring it or mail it back to church this month. Your opinions and thoughts are very important and needed to determine how feasible it will be to be able to support a number of capital projects vital to the future of St. Peter’s. Thank you for your attention and participation.
If you did not receive a survey, please contact the Parish Office and a survey will be made available to you.
NEW WOMENS BIBLE STUDY SERIES BEGINS THIS SATURDAY
A new Women's Bible Study Series begins this Saturday, January 14th at 8:30am. The group will be doing Priscilla Shier's study called "Breathe: Make Room for the Sabbath." All are invited to join this group. Briefly, if you neglect time for tranquility, serenity, and repose, we limit our Christlikeness. If you are weary, worn out and exhausted, the concept of Sabbath will change your life. It is one of God's greatest gifts. The study guide is $10.00, and it will be given out at the first study. Please contact Carolyn Jenkins for more information, or to sign up, email email@example.com or call 410-742-7764.
PICK UP YOUR 2017 OFFERING ENVELOPES
The 2017 offering envelopes have arrived and are on the table at the back of the church arranged in alphabetical order by household last names. If you don’t see your name on a set of envelopes, please let Financial Secretary Bill Day or the Parish Office know and a set will be made available to you!
COFFEE HOUR HOSTS NEEDED FOR JANUARY
There are opportunities to sign up for Sundays in January. Give the gift of hospitality to our fellow parishioners and visitors to the church. Sign up on the sign up board in the parlor. Instructions for a coffee hour host are posted on the inside of the parlor closet door next to the coffee pots. Families, friends, church groups, and others are all invited to host a Sunday.
