Peter's Post

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!
Today is the 4th day of Christmas in the 12 days of the season of Christmas, one of our major feasting seasons of the church year, so keep feasting!  Today we also commemorate the feast of the Holy Innocents.  There is a noon Holy Eucharist with healing service today in the church to observe this feast.

This feast commemorates the story in Matthew 3:13-18 when King Herod, obsessed with keeping a rival king off the throne and hearing of Jesus’ birth from the Wise Men, ordered the slaughter of all male children under the age of two in Bethlehem and the surrounding nation.  Here is the Collect for today:

We remember this day, O God, the slaughter of the holy innocents of Bethlehem by the order of King Herod. Receive, we beseech thee, into the arms of thy mercy all innocent victims; and by thy great might frustrate the designs of evil tyrants and establish thy rule of justice, love, and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and
ever. Amen.

SUNDAY WORSHIP
This year New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday and it is also the Feast of the Holy Name.  The Prayer Book requires that this feast be celebrated when it falls on a Sunday.  For January 1 there will be just two service to celebrate this feast, at 8am Rite I Holy Eucharist and 10am Rite II Holy Eucharist with organ and carols

EPIPHANY TO BE CELEBRATED ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 6
We conclude our Christmas observances with the feast of the Epiphany of Our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, January 6 with a service of Solemn Eucharist at 6pm, followed by a Cajun supper in the Parish Hall and then the de-decoration of the church. Mark your calendar and plan to attend these observance on one of the principal feasts of the church.

BISHOP MARRARY TO VISIT ST. PETER'S JAN 15
The Bishop of Easton, the Rt. Rev. Santosh Marray, makes his first annual visit to St. Peter’s on Sunday, January 15.  He will preside at the 7:45am, 9:00am, and 11:00am services.  He will also confer the sacrament of confirmation and receive individuals into the Episcopal Church at the 9:00am service.  On that day, we will celebrate our Patronal Feast, the Confession of St. Peter.

Bishop Santosh is in the midst of a First 100 Days Pilgrimage in which he is visiting every parish in the Diocese and meeting with parishioners for a conversation in his first 100 days as our Bishop.  As such, there will be an All-Parish Luncheon with the Bishop on that Sunday, January 15 at 12:30pm in the Parish Hall and all are encouraged to attend.

Bishop Santosh will come to the Children’s Sunday School after the 9am service to meet and talk with our youth.  Please mark your calendars and plan to be at worship and the lunch with the Bishop on January 15.

PICTORIAL DIRECTORIES ARE HERE
The Parish Pictorial Directories have arrived.  Those who had their picture taken have a directory in their name waiting for them on the table outside the parlor.  We are trying to determine the need for additional copies.  If you are new to the parish, or if you didn’t have your picture taken, St. Peter’s would like to see that you receive a directory, but more may need to be printed.  Please fill out a Directory Request Form at church on Sunday or at the Parish Office.  Limit one directory per household.
