CHRISTMAS PAGEANT THIS SUNDAY
This Sunday, December 18am, the youth of St. Peter’s present a new Christmas pageant program, “The Beginning,” at 9:30am in the Parish Hall. All parishioners are encouraged to attend and support our youth as they tell the Christmas story. Note that there is a dress rehearsal for all involved in the production this Saturday at 10am in the Parish Hall.
Because of the Christmas Pageant, there will be no 9am worship service this Sunday – parishioners are asked to attend either the 8am Rite I Holy Eucharist or the 11am choral Rite II Holy Eucharist services in the church. There will be refreshments in the Parish Hall after the 8am service and then again in a fellowship gathering after the Christmas Pageant and before the 11am service.
CHURCH BELL IS BACK IN OPERATION
The mechanical apparatus that allows the bell in our bell tower to be rung had broken down this summer, so St. Peter’s has been unable to ring our bell this fall for calls to worship and to ring the hours for downtown. Last week, the bell ringing mechanism was fixed for $1885 and the bell is now able to be rung again.
Our church bell, which was recast after the 1886 fire in downtown Salisbury and restored in our bell tower in 1996, rings out the hours downtown – per an agreement with Wicomico County -- and also is used to call people to worship and to mark the start of worship. We are one of the few churches that still have and regularly use our bell.
Last year a switch was installed in the Sacristy to enable the Celebrant and Worship Leaders of services to conveniently ring the bell at the start of services and to toll the bell during a funeral service.
PICTORIAL DIRECTORIES ARE HERE
The Parish Pictorial Directories have arrived. Those who had their picture taken have a directory in their name waiting for them on the table in the back of the church. We are trying to determine the need for additional copies. If you are new to the parish, or if you didn’t have your picture taken, St. Peter’s would like to see that you receive a directory, but more may need to be printed. Please fill out a Directory Request Form at church on Sunday or at the Parish Office. Limit one directory per household.
In addition, through a generous donation by Jim Ritch, we now have pew directories in pew racks. Thank you Jim.
Thank you also to Carole DiPietro, who has been the parish coordinator for the directories. Please contact her if you have any questions or issues.
SPECIAL SCHEDULE FOR CHRISTMAS, UPCOMING SUNDAYS
There are two services on Christmas Eve: 5pm and 11am; and one service on Sunday, Christmas Day, at 10am.
At the 5pm Christmas Eve service there will be a children’s procession to the crèche at the beginning of the service, and the singing of Silent Night by candlelight after communion. Music will be provided by Peter’s Voice, the St. Peter’s Key Singers Children’s Choir, Robert Young at the organ, and a solo by Brittany Spicer. Music begins at 4:30pm. All children are welcomed to participate in the procession to the crèche – parents: please have your child come to the Parish Library by 4:50pm to be part of the procession.
At the 11pm Christmas Eve service St. Peter’s Choir will perform with Robert Young at the Organ and Ron Davis on Trumpet. There will be a station at the crèche at the beginning of the service and the singing of Silent Night by candlelight after communion. Music selections include: Carol of the Bells, John Ritter’s the Coming of Our King and Angel’s Carol, Handel’s Rejoice sung by soprano Carol Schwalm, He Shall Feed His Flock sung by Ann Allen and Linda Smith, and O Holy Night sung by soprano Sharon Clark and St Peter’s Choir. Music begins at 10:30pm.
The 10am service on Christmas Day is a quiet said service of Holy Eucharist.
This year New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday and it is also the Feast of the Holy Name. For January 1 there will be just two services, at 8am and 10am.
We complete our observance of Christmastide with the Feast of the Epiphany on Friday, January 6 with a Solemn Holy Eucharist in the church at 6pm.

Outreach Committee chair Judy Wyatt has announced that $1,015 in gift cards have been collected and delivered to Wi-Middle’s CARES program provide gift bags for children and families in need. This is an overwhelming response and will allow many children to receive needed clothes and a fun toy for Christmas this year. Thank you so much to everyone who donated cards for this outreach ministry with our partner school.

LET’S HELP TENNESSEE
Tomorrow, December 15, is the last day to bring in contributions for the truck that is heading down to Tennessee as part of the relief efforts for the fire ravaged area in and around Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Thank you to everyone who keeps filling up the big boxes outside the parlor. Parishioner Dick Van Gelder is making his final trip up to H & M Bay Trucking in Hurlock this Friday with the final donations. Thank you to everyone who has contributed.
CHRISTMAS FLOWERS AND GREENS
Christmas Flowers and Greens Forms and donations must be received by this Sunday, December 18. Flower and greens donations may be made in memory or in honor of loved ones. Forms are also available on the table at coffee hour this Sunday and from the Parish Office.
ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN TOTALS LESS THAN LAST YEAR
To date, Pledges for 2017 for St. Peter’s annual campaign total $253,000 from 104 households; last year pledges totaled $275,000 from 109 households. It appears that there will be less income this year to fund ministries and operations in the parish. The Vestry meets on Wednesday, December 21, to finalize the operations budget for next year and may have to make some hard funding decisions. Thank you to everyone who has made a pledge. Additional pledges and increases in pledging amounts are always welcomed. Please pray for our parish, the work we are doing in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and for the Vestry and our future.
