Peter's Post

HAPPY ST. ANDREW’S DAY!
Today is the feast day of St. Peter’s brother, Andrew.  The Gospel of John tells us that it was St. Andrew who introduced our patron St. Peter to our Lord.  Consider how this introduction by Peter’s brother changed Peter’s life.  May we honor those like Andrew who bring those they love to know Christ.  May they be an example and an inspiration to us to tell the good news of Jesus Christ to those we know and love.

COME TO ADVENT LESSONS AND CAROLS THIS SUNDAY EVENING
One of the highlight events of the season that you don’t want to miss is Advent Lessons and Carols by candlelight at St. Peter’s.  It is scheduled for this Sunday evening, December 4 at 7pm in the church.

The scripture lessons chosen for this service represent the history of salvation from the Creation to the coming of Christ.  The carols and music represent the great music of the Advent season of preparation and anticipation for the coming of Our Lord.  St. Peter’s Choir, Grace Notes Hand Bell Choir, St. Peter’s Key Singers Children’s Choir will be performing, and Robert Young on organ along with a guest obeist will be presenting pieces such as Sleepers Awake by J.S. Bach and Of the Father’s Love Begotten by Craig Phillips.
A freewill offering will be taken at the service to benefit St. Peter’s men’s emergency shelter ministry in 2017.
Please let others know about Advent Lessons and Carols and invite friends and family to join you in this moving, meaningful service.

WINTER KEYNOTER NEWSLETTER COMING OUT THIS WEEK
Look for the latest edition of St. Peter’s Keynoter newsletter later this week – full of articles and information about happenings in our parish.  It is scheduled to be published electronically on December 1 and mailed out to those without email on December 2. Additional copies are available this Sunday at coffee hour.

COME JOIN IN OUR CAROLING ADVENTURE DEC. 11
Once again this year St. Peter’s is renting a bus to take us from the church to many of our homebound parishioners to sing some Christmas carols and to deliver some good cheer.  Peter’s Voice will provide the music, and parishioners and families are invited to participate.  This is a parish-wide activity.  We’ll assemble in the Parish Hall Sunday afternoon, December 11, by 4pm and then be on our way – it will probably take three hours to visit everyone one the list.  Contact Laura McCarthy for more information.

HELP NEEDED:  This is a request from the Parish Caring Team for cookies, candy, rice krispie treats, cup cakes, etc. which will be packaged up to take with the carolers.  Even if you can’t make it out to carol, you can still help with some baked goods.  Please bring in your offering on that same Sunday (December 11th) and leave it in the library.  Later that day, the goodies will be divvyed up and packaged to take with the carolers that afternoon.  Thank you!

CONGRATULATIONS TO BOB COOK
Congratulations to long time parishioner Bob Cook who recently received the 2016 Salisbury Award.  In accepting the award he attributed his great work in support of our community to living out what he heard at the beginning of Holy Eucharist at worship on Sundays at St. Peter’s:  “Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ saith: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”  Thanks for your witness, Bob.

CHRISTMAS OUTREACH MINISTRY FOR OUR PARTNER SCHOOL, WI-MIDDLE
There are many students in our partner school, Wi-Middle, and their families who are in need at this time of year.  St. Peter’s Outreach Committee is working with school staff to provide gift bags for these children.  As we did last year, the committee is collecting gift cards to help purchase items for the gift bags.  Families send the school an assessment of their needs, and gift bags are prepared, usually containing several pieces of coordinating clothing, socks, underwear, hats, gloves, etc. plus a gift item for each child.  These are then wrapped, bagged and tied with a ribbon.  It is required that a parent or guardian pick up this bag during the last week of school before the Christmas break.  Cards donated by parishioners help greatly with the shopping for these items.

The school has requested that we purchase these gift cards from their selected stores:  WALMART, KOHL’S or OLD NAVY, in the amount of your choice, but please note that amount on the back of the card.  There is a gift card poster in the parlor at coffee hour with envelopes where you can place your card. These will then be presented to the school to be used for their gift bags.  These cards need to be at the school by December 12 so please get them to the church by Sunday DECEMBER 11.

Thank you for help in providing for children in need.

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS AND GREENS
This Sunday there will be an insert in the worship bulletins for Christmas Flowers.  Forms and donations must be received by December 20.  Flower and greens donations may be made in memory or in honor of loved ones.  Forms are also available from the Parish Office.

STEWARDSHIP: ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN UPDATE
As of Monday, 97 Pledge Cards have been received totaling $246,648.  Thank you to everyone who has already turned in a pledge card in support of the ministries of St. Peter’s.  Pledging is how the Vestry is able to anticipate how much income the church will receive next year as they work now to prepare the budget for 2017.  As such, it is important that all pledge cards are returned as soon as possible.  If you haven’t filled out your card yet, please prayerfully consider a pledge to St. Peter’s to help us do God’s work in the world.  Turn in your pledge card this Sunday at worship or send it to the Parish Office to the attention of the Stewardship Committee Chair.  Help us reach our goal of 120 pledges this year.  Additional Pledge cards are available at the church entrances and from the Parish Office.  Thank you.

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT REHEARSALS SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY MORNINGS
Over the next two Sundays during the children’s Sunday School hour from 10:15AM-11:00AM there will be rehearsals for the Children’s Christmas Pageant.  It is important that youth who want to be part of the pageant attend every rehearsal.  The Christmas Pageant will take place on Sunday, December 18, at 9:30am in the Parish Hall.
