SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER NEXT TUESDAY

Next Tuesday, Feburary 9 is Shrove Tuesday, the last day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday, and it’s the traditional day of our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.  You are invited to be part of this tradition – your Vestry will be hosting this affair from 5pm to 7pm in the Parish Hall.  Bring friends and family.  Featuring pancakes and sausages, fruit, juice and coffee.

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES

The church season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 10 – a week from today.  Ash Wednesday services, which include the imposition of ashes will be held that day at 7am, 12noon, and 7pm.  All are encouraged to begin their observance of a Holy Lent by attending one of these services.

MUSIC MINISTRIES POSITIONS OPEN

St. Peter’s has open a number of music director positions as part of a music ministries leadership team.  These position openings can be found on the parish website.  The positions are:  Organist & Adult Choir Director; Contemporary Worship Band Director; Hand Bell Choir Director; and an overall Chief Music Ministries Director, which could be filled by one of the other positions.  There is an additional member of the Music Ministries Team, the Children’s Choir Director, which will continue to be filled by Calvin Collins.  For more information go to:

www.stpeterschurch.net/job-openings/ or contact the Parish Office.

LENTEN ADULT EDUCATION SERIES PLANNED FOR TUESDAYS IN LENT
The topic for this year’s Lenten series is “the Different Passions of Our Lord Jesus Christ.”  Each of the four gospels in the Bible contains the passion story of Jesus’ last meal with his disciples, his trial and crucifixion, his death and resurrection.  Yet all four gospel writers tell the story differently.  In addition, other details about Jesus’ passion are not found in any of the gospels and have come down to us through tradition.  Join Father David Michaud as we explore the nuances and motivations behind the gospel passion narratives, discussing each gospel version and other traditions not found in the gospels, and discover how taken together they inform our understanding today of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When and Where:  Tuesdays in Lent in the Parish Hall:  potluck begins at 6:00pm (bring a food to share); the class runs from 6:40pm to 7:45pm.  No prior scriptural knowledge is needed or required.  Bibles will be provided.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY ON THE BOOK OF DANIEL

The Women’s Bible Study will resume with a Beth Moore video series on the book of Daniel.  The 12-week series will be held on Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. in the church library, which will also include breakfast and good fellowship.  This series deals with “a faith-building study of prophecy and how to live with integrity in today’s self-absorbed society.  The prophet Daniel faced unbelievable pressures to compromise his faith, to live in a hostile culture, and to confront temptations and threats”.  The first 6 weeks will be about Daniel’s life and the pressures he faced, and the second half of the series will be about the prophecies of Daniel through the second coming of Christ.

The first half of the series is from Saturday, February 13 through March, 19.  The second half is from Saturday, April 2 through May 7.

If you are interested in this fascinating series, please sign up on the sheet outside the parlor so that workbooks can be ordered.  Come join us for “Bible, Breakfast, and Beth”!

A “NEW LIFE” FOR CHILDREN'S CHOIR

By Children’s Choir Director Calvin Collins

The past few months have been a growing process for the St. Peters Children’s Choir. We have excelled through music of different genres and difficulties. One of the ways we can be progressive with the children’s choir is by purchasing new cassocks that will distinguish the children’s choir from the adult choir. These cassocks will be blue which will be in contrast of the black cassocks the adult choir wears. Jesus said in Mark 10: 14 “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” When children are involved in ministries at church and through participation in ministries such as the children’s choir, they grow spiritually and musically. Please prayerfully consider making a donation to the Children’s Choir so that we can continue to do God’s work and His will shall be done here at St. Peters. The total estimated cost of the children’s choir robes is $1000.

Contributions of any size are welcome.  You can make a check out to St. Peter’s Church with “Children’s Choir Robes” listed on the memo line.  It would be amazing to have the children wear the new cassocks at Easter symbolizing new life through the resurrection of Christ. Through God’s help and your prayers, we will make this a reality!
