Peter's Post

GIVING BACK TO GOD

Let us give thanks to the Lord Our God.  It is right to give Him thanks and praise! (BCP p. 361)

All we have comes from God, and through Our Lord Jesus Christ we are given grace upon grace, mercy and forgiveness, and salvation and the hope of everlasting life.  We give thanks to God for what we have been given by giving back to God of our time, talent and treasure.

This week all households should be receiving a letter from Atif Gaddis, Stewardship Committee Chair, asking you to make a pledge of support to St. Peter’s for 2016, to enable your church to continue its Godly witness and ministries through next year. If you did not receive a Pledge Card please see Atif. Please prayerfully consider your pledge for 2016. Our Stewardship Goal is to have a Pledge Commitment from 100% of our households.

You are invited to spend a few minutes at St. Peter’s Stewardship Page on the parish website.  There are some good articles, videos and frequently asked questions about Stewardship to help you in your discernment of your 2016 pledge.  Go to:
http://www.stpeterschurch.net/support-us/.

Sunday October 18, 2015 is Stewardship Thanksgiving Sunday.  At all three services you will be invited to place your pledge card on the Altar in Thanksgiving.  If you are unable to come to church that Sunday, please send your Pledge Card to the Parish Office to the Stewardship Committee’s attention prior to October 18th so it can be included in the pledge total that will be announced the following week.

THANK YOU FOR A SUCCESSFUL CAFÉ NIGHT

Thank you to all who came out last Sunday evening to enjoy a good German meal and to support our Trailblazers Youth Group at their fall fundraiser.  Over $750 was raised for the youth group.  Thank you also to our middle and high school youth, their parents and supporters, youth leaders Mary Phillips, Sherri Hall and Nevik Johnson, and to our head chef Jimmy Hill for all their work in making Café Night a great event for fellowship and support of our youth ministries.

HABITAT BUILD THIS SATURDAY

Be part of St. Peter’s crew at the Habitat for Humanity building site this Saturday.  The location of the house build is: 315 Charles Street in Salisbury.  We will be working on demolition.  Habitat has all the supplies we would need so you don't need to bring anything.  Please arrive between 8:30am-8:45am.  For more information, contact Megan Fenoglietto at meganfeno@yahoo.com.

THIRD FRIDAY OCTOBER: SHERWOOD FOREST

The theme for October for Salisbury’s Third Friday Downtown is “Comicon” and St. Peter’s is transforming our courtyard into Sherwood Forest with activities for children, and brats and hot dogs for sale.  More details to come.  Let Linda Hurley know if you are able to help with this event on October 16 from 5-8pm:
linda.hurley@comcast.net.

SAVE THE DATE:  ALL PARISH WORK DAY NOV. 14

The Property Committee has announced the date of the church’s fall All Parish Work Day for Saturday morning, November 14, and your help is needed!  There are a number of issues in our buildings and grounds that need attention.  Parishioners of all ages are asked to come to the church that morning to help with a variety of tasks.  Please mark your calendar and plan to stop by and lend a hand.  If you are away that day but want to help, contact Property Committee Chair Amy Maull about possible projects that can be done outside that Work Day.  Thank you.

HOSTING COFFEE HOUR

Did you notice that the food table at coffee hour has shrunk?  That’s because we are finding that we just need a few snacks on a smaller table along with coffee and beverages for our coffee hours, so it does not create a burden on those who volunteer to host a Sunday coffee hour.  The goal is to provide a hospitable place after worship to enjoy fellowship with one another, and to welcome visitors and newcomers to our parish.

We also want to encourage more people, groups and families to host a coffee hour, by limiting expenses for the host.  Why not volunteer?  Sign up board is on the closet door in the Parlor.  A reminder to clean up and dispose of any leftover food and trash immediately and to see that the storage closet is in order.  Directions for setting up and cleaning up after a coffee hour are posted on the interior of the parlor closet door, for reference.

MD STATE BOYCHOIR SINGING AT EVENSONG, IN NEED OF LODGING

The Maryland State Boychoir is once again coming to St. Peter’s on Friday, November 6 at 7:30pm to be the choir for our service of Evensong and then to present a small concert after the service.

We are in need of volunteers who would be able to provide lodging in their homes Friday night for some of the members of the choir and provide breakfast and a bag lunch for them the next day.  We have heard from previous host families that it was an outstanding experience and privilege to have these talented and courteous young men in their homes.  If you are willing to help or would like more information, please contact Music Director Bruce Horner directly at
intunerbh@gmail.com. Thank you for your ministry of hospitality.

FATHER DAVID AWAY THIS SUNDAY

Father David Michaud will be away this weekend.  On Sunday we welcome the Rev. Ken Thom as our celebrant at all three services.  Father David returns Tuesday.
