Peter's Post

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS NOV 1

Remember to set your clocks back one hour this Saturday, All Hallows’ Eve, before going to bed.  Daylight Savings time ends 2am on Sunday, Nov. 1.

ALL SAINTS DAY THIS SUNDAY, NOV. 1

This Sunday we celebrate one of the Principal Feasts of the Church Year, All Saints’ Day.  On this day we commemorate the communion of saints, that is, the union and shared life of all Christians in Christ, including those who now live in the world and those whose mortal lives have ended.  All are bound together in Christ by sacrament, prayer, and praise.

It is also one of the Feast Days recommended in the Book of Common Prayer for Holy Baptism, and at the 9am worship service we will witness Oliver McAllister receiving the Sacrament of Baptism.  Please keep Oliver and his parents, Colin and Stephanie, in your prayers as they prepare for this blessed event.

NEW PRESIDING BISHOP TO BE INSTALLED NOV. 1

Our newly elected Presiding Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry, is scheduled to be installed as the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church this Sunday in Washington’s National Cathedral at 12:00noon.
St. Peter’s will be hosting a viewing of the live streaming webcast from Washington Cathedral in the Parish Hall for all who are interested in seeing this service live.  Refreshments will be provided as will copies of the programs being used at the service.  Father David, who has attended the last two Presiding Bishop Installations, will be there to help with some commentary on what is happening.

UPDATE ON STEWARDSHIP PLEDGES

Thank you to everyone who has turned in their 2016 Pledge Card.  To date, 83 Pledge Cards have been received.  Last year 103 Pledge Cards were turned in.  If you haven’t yet turned in a Pledge Card, please prayerfully consider making a pledge of support to St. Peter’s.  We can’t continue to grow our ministries and be a spiritual presence in Salisbury without more support.  Your pledge is needed and greatly appreciated!

You may place your pledge card in the offering plate this Sunday, or send it to the Parish Office addressed to the Stewardship Committee.  Help us continue our mission “to know and to share the love of Christ.”  Pledge your support of St. Peter’s today!

To download a 2016 Pledge Card and see information about supporting St. Peter’s, go to the parish website’s Stewardship Page:
http://www.stpeterschurch.net/support-us/. Pledge Cards are also available in church at from the Parish Office.

YOUNG FAMILIES GET TOGETHER THIS SUNDAY

Parishioners Ann and Sean Fahey are hosting a fall family fellowship get together at their home this Sunday at 12:30 pm and invite all parish families with children from birth to fifth grade to come and join them.  It will be a wonderful afternoon with kid and family friendly activities, including a camp fire, sing along, and lunch.  The Fahey’s home on the west side of the county is at 6248 Fire Tower RD Salisbury, MD 21801.  Directions from the church:  Take Rt. 50 west to Nanticoke Road.  Left on Nanticoke Rd.  Follow Nanticoke Rd to Fire Tower Rd.  Right on Fire Tower Road.  They are the fourth driveway on  Fire Tower on the right, with a white mail box.

NOTE:  There will be no 2pm Children’s Choir rehearsal this Sunday.  The Choir Director, Calvin Collins, will be at this event at the Fahey’s and will lead in some singing and be available for conversation about the Children’s Choir program.

MORE HOMES NEEDED FOR BOYCHOIR

The Maryland State Boychoir will once again come to St. Peter’s to participate in Evensong and to provide a concert of a variety of choral musical styles.  They will be here Friday evening, November 6 through Saturday morning, November 7.  We are in need of 3-4 more parishioners to volunteer to provide lodging for the members of the Boychoir to spend the night, provide breakfast and a bag lunch.  Please contact Bruce Horner if you are interested in hosting 1-3 boys on Friday, November 6, or would like more information:
intunerbh@gmail.com.

Thank you to all who have already volunteered to help!

RECTOR APPOINTED MEMBER OF THE BISHOP NOMINATING COMMITTEE

Father David Michaud has been appointed as a clergy member of the Diocese’s Nominating Committee for the 11th Bishop of Easton, and has agreed to Chair the Diocesan Profile Subcommittee.  A webpage with information about the nominations process is now on the Diocesan website:
www.dioceseofeaston.org/bishopsearch. The Bishop Provisional, the Rt. Rev. Henry Parsley, has called for the Electing Convention for the next bishop to be held in Easton on Saturday, June 11, 2016 with the 11th Bishop of Easton installed in October 2016.  A bishop must be elected by a majority of both clergy and lay delegates to convention and then be consented to by a majority of Dioceses’ bishops and standing committees in the Episcopal Church.

ST PETER’S SEEKING RENTER FOR OFFICE SPACE IN ANNEX

To help with the maintenance and costs of the Parish Educational Annex Building, St. Peter’s has been renting out the first floor Suites C and D to tenants.  This month, the tenant in Suite C vacated their space, and St. Peter’s is working with Sperry Van Ness to market the office space to a new tenant.  There are 1421 square feet of office space available.  Information for prospective tenants is being compiled.  The listing will be posted and announced soon.
