NEW PRESIDING BISHOP TO BE INSTALLED NOV. 1

Our newly elected Presiding Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry, is scheduled to be installed as the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church on Sunday, November 1 at a service of Holy Eucharist in Washington’s National Cathedral at 12:00noon.  The term of a Presiding Bishop is 9 years.  If you are lucky enough to have secured free tickets for this event, you can travel across the bridge and see this historic event at the National Cathedral.  Since all tickets have been distributed and there is little chance that any extra seats are available, if you don’t have tickets, why not join other parishioners that afternoon in watching this event together at St. Peter’s?

St. Peter’s will be hosting a viewing of the live streaming webcast from Washington Cathedral in the Parish Hall for all who are interested in seeing this service live.  Father David, who has attended the last two Presiding Bishop Installations, will be there to help with some commentary on what is happening.

STEWARDSHIP PLEDGES NEEDED

Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cor. 9:7)

Thank you to everyone who turned in their 2016 Pledge Card at this past Stewardship Thanksgiving Sunday.  To date, we have received two-thirds of the number of pledge cards that we received for 2015, which is a good start, but well short of where we need to be to continue carrying out our ministries at St. Peter’s. Have you turned in your 2016 Pledge?  Your pledge is important and needed to continue our good work in this parish.  If you have not yet made a pledge, please prayerfully consider what you can commit to giving your church for 2016.  You may place your pledge card in the offering plate this Sunday, or send it to the Parish Office addressed to the Stewardship Committee.  Help us continue our mission “to know and to share the love of Christ.”  Pledge your support of St. Peter’s today!

To download a 2016 Pledge Card and see information about supporting St. Peter’s, go to the parish website’s Stewardship Page:
http://www.stpeterschurch.net/support-us/. Pledge Cards are also available in church at from the Parish Office.

NOTE FROM CALVIN COLLINS, CHILDREN’S CHOIR DIRECTOR

“St. Peter’s Children’s Choir performed last week for their first time this fall and the reception from the parishioners and others was amazing. Many said they were moved by the performance and when that happens, I believe that the spirit is present and God is speaking through these children. Thank you for praying for this ministry over the last few months. If you would like to donate your time, talent, or monetary gift to the children’s choir ministry, please let me know. Our next performance will be during the Youth Sunday service at 9 AM on November 29th. You do not want to miss it!

“I am looking forward to being with our young people and their families on the afternoon of November 1st at Sean and Anne Fahey’s home (see article below). We will be having some delicious food and a bonfire which the children will sing some songs that we may do in children’s choir. I hope to see many of you there as we grow as a church family at St. Peter’s, spreading the Gospel of Love for Jesus Christ. Thank you all for what you do for this church and I look forward to another wonderful service with amazing music from the Children’s Choir!”

REMEMBERING LOVED ONES ON ALL SAINTS DAY

Sunday, November 1, is All Saints’ Day and is a time when we customarily remember the names of those loved ones who have gone before us at the altar during worship.  This is the last Sunday to fill out and turn in the All Saints In Memoriam Request form, listing the names of loved ones that you would like to be remembered on All Saints’ Day.  Forms are also available from the Parish Office.  All forms are to be turned in by Monday, October 26.

MORE HOMES NEEDED FOR BOYCHOIR

The Maryland State Boychoir will once again come to St. Peter’s to participate in Evensong and to provide a concert of a variety of choral musical styles.  They will be here Friday evening, November 6 through Saturday morning, November 7.  We are in need of parishioners to volunteer to provide lodging for the members of the Boychoir to spend the night, provide breakfast and a bag lunch.  We are still in need of lodging for about 15 boys – would you be able to help?  Please contact Bruce Horner if you are interested in hosting 1-3 boys on Friday, November 6, or would like more information:
intunerbh@gmail.com.

Thank you to everyone who have already volunteered to help!
