CHILDREN’S CHOIR DEBUTS THIS SUNDAY/SHOEBOX MINISTRY FOR WI-MIDDLE

St. Peter’s Children’s Choir’s first performance is this Sunday, October 18 at the 9:00am Worship Service.  They will be singing the Introit and leading the Offertory Hymn Holy Holy Holy under the direction of Mr. Calvin Collins.

Our Youth have also been working on decorating and preparing shoe boxes with toiletries inside for the CARES program at our partner school, Wi-Middle.  These will be available at the school for students in need. Our young people will be presenting these at the Offertory at the 9:00am Worship Service.

THIRD FRIDAY OCTOBER: SHERWOOD FOREST

This Friday St. Peter’s is transforming our courtyard into Sherwood Forest for Third Friday Downtown -- with activities for children, and brats and hot dogs for sale.  Come down this Friday from 5-8pm, stop by St. Peter’s and support your church.  Let Linda Hurley know if you are able to help:
linda.hurley@comcast.net.

REMEMBERING LOVED ONES ON ALL SAINTS DAY

Sunday, November 1, is All Saints Sunday and is a time when we customarily remember the names of those loved ones who have gone before us at the altar during worship.  For the next two Sundays the Worship Bulletins will have an insert for you to fill out, listing the names of loved ones that you would like to be remembered on All Saints Day.  Forms are also available from the Parish Office.  All forms are to be turned in by Monday, October 26.

MORE HOMES NEEDED FOR BOYCHOIR

The Maryland State Boychoir will once again come to St. Peter’s to participate in Evensong and to provide a concert of a variety of choral musical styles.  They will be here Friday evening, November 6 through Saturday morning, November 7.  We are in need of parishioners to volunteer to provide lodging for the members of the Boychoir to spend the night, provide breakfast and a bag lunch.  We are still in need of lodging for about 15 boys – would you be able to help?  Please contact Bruce Horner if you are interested in hosting 1-3 boys on Friday, November 6, or would like more information:
intunerbh@gmail.com.

Thank you to everyone who have already volunteered to help!

THIS SUNDAY IS STEWARDSHIP THANKSGIVING SUNDAY

This Sunday October 18, 2015 is Stewardship Thanksgiving Sunday.  At all three services you will be invited to place your pledge card on the Altar in Thanksgiving.  There will be extra pledge cards at the church if you need one.  Below is part of a thoughtful article about the impact of generous giving:

Money Speaks Louder Than Words
By the Rev. Canon Timothy Dombek

In our Western, free market, capitalist culture, money speaks with a clear loud voice. We, the people of this culture, use our money to say what matters to us, what is important to us. With money, we build things: hospitals, schools and universities. We construct residences, homes, vacation getaways and other structures for our pleasure. Communities erect sports arenas, theaters for film and the arts, casinos and dance halls. We ‘invest’ in electronic playthings that pass the time, keep us in touch, and endlessly inform or entertain us, day in, day out.

Often we invest money in and build things that outlast us. We invest in our children and their education; our legacies; our reputations. Most of the time though, we consume our money by acquiring things. We most often spend money on ourselves. Money is ultra-powerful, and how we invest it, spend it, or give it speaks volumes about what we value. It shows the world what we believe and where we think we belong in the order of the universe. Without fail.

So, too, the money we give to church. Our giving to church also speaks volumes about how we view money in our lives, how we think of it. Our generous giving also reveals what we think God thinks about it–if God thinks of money at all.

It strikes me as ironic that since the nineteenth century our money in the U.S. has said, “In God We Trust” on it. I often wonder: is this a confession or a reminder? Does putting “In God We Trust” on our money help keep the creator God in front of us? Does it remind us of God’s true reign over the world and all that is within it, including us and our money?  Or are we admitting that money (currency) is “the god in whom we trust”?  Money can become a god in people’s lives.

What does your relationship with money say to you? Say about you? Say to the world about you? Whether you like it or not, the way you use money speaks about you. Without words it tells the world what you value, what you believe in and wish to invest in, what you hold dear.

Think of it. God gives us everything we need. Our lives, our bodies, our families, our innate talents, skills, abilities, and our work. God gave us that. In returning a portion of all God gives us for our use and pleasure, we acknowledge God’s provision. It lifts our souls.

Your pledge to St. Peter’s is important, it is needed, it makes a bold statement of your commitment to give back to God to further God’s kingdom in this world.  Prayerfully consider a pledge to your parish. Thank you for your response.
