Boychoir Concert: “A Wonderful Experience of Music”
More than 150 people from St. Peter’s and the community attended a concert last Friday evening in the church by the Maryland State Boychoir from Baltimore, Maryland. The group traveled to St. Peter’s as part of an Eastern Shore tour, and their music was warmly received. More than 35 boys and teens sang a variety of choral pieces under the direction of Stephen Holmes to the delight of the audience.
Prior to their performance the Fellowship and Hospitality Committee organized a dinner of Italian food in the Parish Hall for the choir and their chaperones. After the concert, 10 families from the parish took members of the choir home with them overnight and fed them breakfast before returning them back to the church and their tour bus. Stephen Holmes and the choir also led a workshop on starting a youth choir Saturday morning in the church, and those who attended were treated to an impromptu second concert that morning.
Many thanks to Bruce Horner for arranging this concert and helping to coordinate the accommodations for the choir. Thanks to those host families, the Fellowship and Hospitality Committee, and Richard Culver for his great publicity efforts.
Responding to the Disaster in the Philippines
Every day since the onslaught of Typhoon Haiyan we are understanding more of the great devastation this super storm has left in its wake for the people of the Philippines. Hundreds dead, thousands homeless, millions of dollars in damage, people continuing to be at risk and in harm’s way. What can we do here at St. Peter’s?
First, we can all pray. Prayers are needed for those in distress, for those in danger, for those losing hope. Please keep the victims of this storm in your prayers.
The Episcopal Church is working with its partner church, the Episcopal Church in the Philippines through our Disaster response and recovery agency, Episcopal Relief & Development (ER&D). Immediate aid is being sent through ER&D to those on the ground who are assessing situations and directing aid. For the latest information on ER&D’s response efforts, go to https://www.episcopalrelief.org/press-and-resources/press-releases // Partners in Philippines Assess Damage from Super Typhoon Haiyan.

Stewardship Pledge Drive Yielding Record Results
As of today, over $230,000 has been pledged for 2014 toward the annual giving campaign for the ministries and operations of our parish. This is a 33% increase from last year’s total amount pledged. What a tremendous response in support of our church!
So far, 96 pledge cards have been received for 2014, a 24% increase from the 73 pledging households for 2013. Most notable is that 32 of the 2014 pledges are new pledges – households that did not pledge in 2013 but are pledging for 2014.
Of those 96 pledges for 2014, 63 have increased their pledge for next year. The combination of new pledges and increased pledges has made the difference in this year’s annual giving campaign.
“This is a remarkable response of generosity and support for St. Peter’s,” said St. Peter’s Rector, Father David Michaud. “And bodes well for our future as we continue to do Our Lord’s work in this parish. Increased giving not only means we can support our operations next year, but we can dare to dream and look to expand our ministries as well. This is a good foundation from which we can build, and I thank everyone in the parish who responded to this call to stewardship.”
The Stewardship Committee has asked that all Pledge Cards be turned in by this Sunday, November 15, so that they can be figured into the 2014 Parish Budget that will be discussed at the November Vestry meeting. If you haven’t yet pledged, send your pledge card to the Parish Office or place it in the offering plate this Sunday (who knows, maybe we’ll go over 100 Pledge Cards submitted!) Thank you for your generosity.
