Peter's Post

A SPECTACULAR ALL SAINTS DAY!

Note from the Rector:  What an amazing Sunday we had this past All Saints Day.  Attendance was 195 – which is the highest attendance of any Sunday (outside Christmas and Easter) since I’ve been your priest here at St. Peter’s. This is a hopeful sign of growth in our parish.

Our Hand Bell Choir made its season debut at the 11am service with many new (and young!) participants.  We celebrated the baptism of Oliver McAllister at the 9am service as the church’s newest saint.  And on the national level we celebrated the installation of our new Presiding Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry, an event a number of us witnessed in the Parish Hall from a live feed from the National Cathedral.  Thank you for all who participated and helped celebrate one of our principal feasts of the church year.  We are doing amazing things at St. Peter’s.  I hope to see all of you this coming Sundayl! – Father David

EVENSONG FRIDAY WITH MD STATE BOYCHOIR

All are invited to St. Peter’s this Friday at 7:30pm for a service of Evensong, with the Maryland  State Boychoir as the choir for the service.  The Boychoir will also perform a short concert of a  variety of choral style music after the conclusion of the service.  St. Peter’s hosted the Boychoir  last year at this time and it was a memorable experience.  You won’t want to miss it – invite  friends and family to attend as well.

Evensong is a worship service of sung Evening Prayer.  Father David Michaud will be the officiant.  There will be an offering taken during the service that will be given to the Maryland State Boychoir for their programs and activities. A number of parishioners are opening their homes for choir members to stay over Friday night after the concert.  The Fellowship and Hospitality Committee is organizing a dinner for the boys in the parish hall prior to the service.  Thank you to everyone who is helping out in welcoming and accommodating the Maryland State Boychoir!

ALL PARISH WORKDAY: NOV. 14

Plan to be part of St. Peter’s All Parish workday on Saturday morning, November 14.  We will  kick off our day with Morning Prayer at 8:30am in the church, and then begin work by 9am.    Vestry members and Property Committee members are leading projects at various places in our  buildings and grounds and parishioners are asked to help out in an area of their choosing.  We  especially need young able bodied parishioners to help with some of the heavier lifting and  ladder climbing.  Help your church!  Give of your time and talent and come to St. Peter’s  Saturday morning, November 14.  Participate in St. Peter’s All Parish Workday.  Thank you.

RIGHT ON TIME

Need a quick dessert for Thanksgiving? Don't want to slave hours over the oven?  Well your youth have a way to save you from all that hustle and bustle.  Come out to the Trailblazers Annual Bake Sale.  Trailblazers will hold their annual bake sale in the Parlor on Sunday, November 22, 2015.  The sale will happen between the morning worship services.

ADVENT/CHRISTMAS CRAFT ACTIVITY

Please mark your calendars for Sunday, November 22, immediately following the 9:00am  service, for our annual Advent activity in the Parish Hall for all families and children in the Parish.

This year we will have several stations set up for children to make Advent and Christmas crafts.  There will be some Advent wreath materials to take home and make your wreath with fresh greens.  There will also be a station for making a very unique Advent calendar.  Both Advent crafts will have take-home information on the history and symbolism of each craft.

We will have other stations set up for making Christmas tree ornaments and Christmas cards.  This is a new addition to our traditional Advent activity, and we hope that it will be a new and fun way to start off our Advent season.  Of course there will be food goodies and music enjoy!

Please plan to come and support this event and begin the special season of Advent with your family by making some fun items that can be enjoyed throughout the season.  Contact Kathy Willey
(443-523-5632)or Bravard Cornbrooks (410-430-4053) if you are able to help with this project.  Thank you!

 THANKSGIVING TEACHER APPRECIATION

St. Peter’s will be distributing cupcakes to teachers at our partner school, Wi-Middle, near Thanksgiving in appreciation for their efforts.  Thanks to all who helped give a buck for this effort.

NURSERY NEEDS BACK UP HELP

An important ministry for the young families of our parish, and to families who are visiting in search of a church home, is our Sunday morning nursery.  We employ Rebecca Morrell as our nursery attendant, who is a full time Early Childhood Education major at Salisbury University and does a wonderful job with our young folks.

There are some Sundays in the year that she is not able to be with us, especially during college breaks.  Our parish nursery coordinator, Megan Fenoglietto, is seeking parishioners who could help fill in during those times.  She is looking to compile a list of parishioners who wish to serve as substitute attendants in the nursery.  The nursery is open 8:45am-10:15am for the family service and then again at10:45am-12:15pm for the late service.  Substitutes would only be called upon when our regular nursery attendant is unable to serve in the nursery.  A substitute would most likely be needed for both services, but we could split the services between two different substitutes if needed.  Please contact Megan Fenoglietto if you are interested in helping with this ministry at

UPDATE ON STEWARDSHIP PLEDGES

Thank you to everyone who has turned in their 2016 Pledge Card.  To date, 87 Pledge Cards have been received, which is still less than last year’s 103 Pledge Cards received.  If you haven’t yet turned in a Pledge Card, please prayerfully consider making a pledge of support to St. Peter’s.  We can’t continue to grow our ministries and be a spiritual presence in Salisbury without more support.  Your pledge is needed and greatly appreciated!

To download a 2016 Pledge Card and see information about supporting St. Peter’s, go to the parish website’s Stewardship Page:
http://www.stpeterschurch.net/support-us/. Pledge Cards are also available in church at from the Parish Office.  All Pledge Cards are asked to be turned in by November 15 so that the Vestry can plan for the 2016 Parish Budget.
