Peter's Post

ON THIS VETERANS DAY, A COLLECT FOR HEROIC SERVICE:

O Judge of the nations, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of our country who in the day of decision ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy. Grant that we may not rest until all the people of this land share the benefits of true freedom and gladly accept its   disciplines. This we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP p. 839)

AND A COLLECT FOR THOSE IN OUR ARMED FORCES:

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP p. 823)

PLEASE PARTICIPATE IN THIS SATURDAY’S ALL PARISH WORKDAY

Your help is needed! Please plan to participate in St. Peter’s All Parish workday this coming Saturday morning, November 14.  We will kick off our day with Morning Prayer at 8:30am in the church, and then begin work by 9am.  Vestry members and Property Committee members are leading projects at various places in our buildings and grounds and parishioners are asked to help out in an area of their choosing.  All ages welcomed -- we especially need young able bodied parishioners to help with some of the heavier lifting and ladder climbing.  Help your church!  Give of your time and talent and come to St. Peter’s this Saturday.  Contact Property Committee Amy Maull for more information. Thank you.

BISHOP SEARCH UPDATE

The election of the 11 Bishop of Easton is likely to occur in June 2016.  Did you know that anyone can nominate a bishop or priest to be considered as a candidate for the next Bishop?  Nomination forms will be available on the Diocesan website beginning mid-December when the profile of the Diocese of Easton is made available on the website.  Parishioners here and throughout the Diocese are encouraged to think about any priest or bishop you have encountered locally or in your travels who you think might be suited to be our next Bishop.  Consider nominating that person for Bishop.   The latest information about the Bishop Search can be found at
www.dioceseofeaston.org/bishopsearch.

Prayer for the Election of a Bishop:

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a bishop for this Diocese (or, rector for this parish), that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

BLESSINGS TREE AND THIRD FRIDAY

The theme of the November Third Friday Downtown is “Light” and we want to help brighten the season of Thanksgiving by reflecting on our blessings.  Youngsters will begin decorating a “Blessings Tree” on Third Friday on November 20 by writing down a blessing in their life and putting it on our “Blessings Tree.”  Children in the parish and all others are welcomed to participate in this craft Friday evening, November 20, from 5pm to 8pm at St. Peter’s.  Other “blessings” from young people and adults in the parish can be added to the tree the following Sunday, November 22.  We hope to fill the tree with blessings by Thanksgiving, and to share some of these blessings on our Facebook page and on the monitor at coffee hour.

St. Peter’s will also be helping warm things up on Third Friday by selling chili in the courtyard and raising some awareness (and some funds) for St. Peter’s during the event.  Come by and tell your friends and neighbors to check out St. Peter’s for children’s activities and chili on November 20.

ADVENT/CHRISTMAS CRAFT ACTIVITY

A reminder to mark your calendars for Sunday, November 22, immediately following the 9:00am service, for our annual Advent activity in the Parish Hall for all families and children in the Parish.

TRAILBLAZERS BAKE SALE

Need a quick dessert for Thanksgiving? Don't want to slave hours over the oven?  Well your youth have a way to save you from all that hustle and bustle.  Come out to the Trailblazers Annual Bake Sale.  Trailblazers will hold their annual bake sale in the Parlor on November 22, 2015.  The sale will happen between the morning worship services.

CHF SUNDAY CELEBRATION:

The Children’s Home Foundation is an exciting  program in our diocese which offers scholarships and camperships to students on the Eastern Shore.  It is a powerful and effective Episcopal outreach program which changes lives.  For those who would not otherwise have the means to study in vocational/technical career programs, funds are provided through donations which allow them to enter the world of work with a marketable skill.  Fifteen Wicomico County students benefited last year because of your generosity.  CHF Sunday will be held at St. Peter’s on Nov. 22.  Ann Allen will speak briefly at each service.  Envelopes will be provided in the pews although many parishioners will  also receive the Thanksgiving Appeal mailing this month.

FINANCIAL UPDATE

In October the Parish had some high expenses, including building equipment repairs, pension payments and an extra payday in the month, which meant we ran a notable deficit of over $16,000 more in expenses than in income taken in.  Fortunately in some other months expenses have been keeping pace with income.  Your continued giving is very important to help us to continue to pay all our expenses though the rest of the year.  Your parish continues to operate with small margins.  Aging buildings and financing the ministries of a city church are challenging.  Only by your continued support and generous giving will we be able to survive and thrive.  With generous year end giving we hope to make our budget projections for the year

Pastoral News

Parishioner Bob Nay fell and broke his hip last Saturday.  He had successful surgery at PRMC and is beginning his recovery.  Please keep Bob in your prayers.
