CELEBRATE THE FEAST OF PENTECOST THIS SUNDAY!
They were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. (Acts 2:1-4)
This Sunday we celebrate the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples and the church was born. Come celebrate our birthday and wear your red if you’d like – red is the color of the day and reminds us of the tongues of fire that rested on each of the disciples. Pentecost is the 50th and last day of Eastertide, and a principal feast of the Church year. It is also a time to recall our Baptisms, when we received the Holy Spirit, who continues to dwell in us and among us in the church today.
MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE THIS MONDAY
There will be a service of remembrance and Holy Eucharist on Monday, May 25, at 8:30am in the church. The names of those who died in service to our nation will be remembered. If you would like the names of loved ones remembered for this service, fill out a Memorial Day In Memoriam form and send to the Parish office or place in the alms basin on Sunday. Plan to be present at this special service and begin your Memorial Day observance in prayer and remembrance at St. Peter’s, and invite others to attend as well.
PARISH PICNIC: MAY 31
Mark your calendars – Parish Picnic is Sunday, May 31 at Cedar Hill Park in Bivalve, MD. We will have an outdoor service at 10am followed by our annual picnic on the grounds of the park. It’s also Youth Sunday so all youth are encouraged to participate in the service. Sunday School and altar server awards will also be presented so make sure youth are present for these awards.
For the parish picnic: Please bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. Entrees and drinks will be provided. Please bring lawn chairs or a picnic blanket for the 10am service. We could also use some play balls and lawn games too. Note that on that Sunday there will also be an 8:00am service in the church.
CHILDREN’S HOME FOUNDATION UPDATE: GOOD NEWS
Children’s Home Foundation’s Wicomico Country Board Member and parishioner Lynne Peverley reports: We had a call this week from a young single mother to whom we gave a $1,500 scholarship in a previous year. She did a one semester Certified Nursing Assistant program at WorWic, using our funds, in order to find steady employment. She finished that course with a 4.0 and now has let us know that she has a full time job that she loves and will always be grateful for how our support allowed her to work and earn enough to support her small family. Donations from our parish as well as the other 9 of the Eastern Shore have made this possible!!
Good news indeed!
LIGHT REPLACEMENT PROJECT BEGINS TUESDAY
Beginning this Tuesday light fixtures in the Parish House will be replaced with energy efficient LED lights, which will generate significant savings in the Parish’s electric bill. The cost is greatly underwritten by grants from Delmarva Power.
