Peter's Post

TODAY IS THE FEAST OF THE ANNUNCIATION

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation when the Angel Gabriel came to Mary and announced to her that she would conceive and bear a son and name him Jesus. “He will be great,” said Gabriel. “And will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David.”  Mary responded, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.”  The feast of the Annunciation on March 25 is celebrated nine months before Christmas.

NURSERY NOW OPEN FOR 11 AM SERVICE

A staffed nursery is now available for both the 9am and 11am services on Sundays.

MAUNDY THURSDAY WATCH – HOURS AVAILABLE

Jesus said, “Could you not keep awake with me one hour? Keep awake and pray…” (Mark 14:34)

At the conclusion of the Maundy Thursday service the Reserved Sacrament is removed from the church and taken to the Altar of Repose set up in the Parlor and then the Altar is stripped and the Triptych closed. It is customary for there to be someone present at the Altar of Repose from that service until the noon service on Good Friday for the Watch.

You are welcomed to be part of the Watch this year.  Many hour slots are available from Maundy Thursday night through Good Friday morning.  Spend an hour in quiet with Our Lord’s presence – sign up on the bulletin board at coffee hour this Sunday.  One person can sign up, or two or more.  If you are a group, consider signing up together and spending an hour keeping awake with our Lord.  You may spend that time as you’d like: in quiet meditation, reading Scriptures, prayers, doing whatever you are comfortable doing that would encourage your encounter with the divine.

CHECK OUT THE NEW DISPLAY SCREEN AT COFFEE HOUR THIS SUNDAY

As part of our computer systems upgrade we have replaced the bulletin board outside the Parlor with a monitor that will provide announcements, a welcoming message, and a calendar of upcoming events for parishioners and visitors at coffee hour.  Check it out!

WI-FI IN THE CHURCH

A reminder that we have Wi-Fi in the church.  Sunday bulletins and announcements are now available through the parish’s public Wi-Fi system so that those who prefer can bring their tablets, download their bulletins, and follow the service on their screens.  Also available via the Wi-Fi is on-line giving via Parish Pay, and access to the parish website.

LAST WEEK TO ORDER EASTER LILIES

Sunday, March 29 is the last day to submit order forms and donations for Easter Lilies in memory or in honor of loved ones.  Forms are available in church Sunday and this week in the Parish Office.

REHEARSALS FOR HOLY WEEK SERVICES

Those altar servers, Eucharistic Ministers and ushers assigned to serve at Holy Week services are asked to be present at a rehearsal to go over the special responsibilities for these services.  Rehearsals will be in the church and are scheduled as follows:

Palm Sunday:  Sat, March 28 at 10am
Maundy Thursday: Sun, March 29 at 12:30pm
Good Friday:  Sun, March 29 at 1:00pm
Easter Vigil:  Sun, March 29 at 1:30pm.
Note:  No rehearsals are needed for Easter Sunday services.

BOXWOODS TO BE REPLACED

Thanks to a generous donation from Talmadge Reeves, St. Peter’s will be replacing the overgrown boxwoods along the ramp on the Church Street grounds of the church with smaller boxwoods. These will be planted beginning the weekend of April 11-12 as part of a landscape redesign in that area recommended by the Property Committee and approved by the Vestry.  All plantings, landscaping and alterations to the sprinkler system have been paid for by generous donations from parishioners.

If you are interested in taking one or more of the old boxwoods, they will be available to be taken the week after Easter Sunday.  Please contact Mac Peverley or Linda Abbott if you are interested in them.  You must arrange to have them removed and taken off the property.
