CONVERSATION SUNDAY ABOUT YOUTH MINISTRIES INITIATIVE PROPOSAL
The Education Committee has put forth a proposal for a new Youth Ministries Initiative that recently received funding approval from the Vestry. The proposal calls for hiring a part-time Youth Ministries Intern and making some changes to how St. Peter’s approaches Christian formation, fellowship and mission for our youth, beginning in the fall of 2015.
This Sunday, July 12, and next Sunday, July 19, there will be a conversation in the Parish Hall for parents and youth in middle and high school after the 10am worship service about this proposal, and all are encouraged to attend one of these meetings. During this time, the proposal will be presented to parents and youth, and there will be opportunity for questions and conversation about the initiative. At these meetings members of the Education Committee and Father David will be present. The Diocesan Youth Missioner, Joanne Fisher, will also be present at the July 12 meeting. Please plan to attend to learn more and provide feedback.
GENERAL CONVENTION – DIOCESAN REPORT
The Bishop and Deputies to the General Convention from the Diocese of Easton invite you to come hear a report of the General Convention’s actions and join in conversation. There will be two meetings, both begin at 7pm: Tuesday, July 14 – Emmanuel, Chestertown, and, closer to home, Thursday, July 16 – St. Paul’s, Vienna. This is your opportunity to come hear and ask questions about the Episcopal Church’s General Convention, which took place June 25 through July 3 in Salt Lake City, Utah. All are welcome to attend!
Our Rector, Father David, was a clergy Deputy to General Convention and is happy to speak with anyone from the parish about General Convention as well.
BISHOP CURRY’S SERMON AT GENERAL CONVENTION
The new Presiding Bishop-elect, the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry, gave a powerful sermon at the Closing Eucharist at General Convention. You can view the sermon in its entirety here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj_N3OsHxxo
PARISH HOUSE COURTYARD UPDATE
The Property Committee is recommending to the Vestry that the Parish House courtyard on St. Peter’s Street be updated; a drawing of the redesign is on display in the Parlor during coffee hour. The purpose of this project is to increase the area where people can congregate and to update the plantings, some of which are overgrown and out of scale. This will make our courtyard a more pleasing place to assemble for events and activities, and it will be more welcoming for those who visit on Third Fridays Downtown, and for other downtown events.
The cost is expected to be covered by existing memorial gifts, so there is no additional cost to the parish. If approved by the Vestry, work is expected to begin in early August and hopefully completed for August’s Third Friday. The Third Friday theme for August is the “Dog Days of Summer” at which time St. Peter’s will offer a Blessing of the Animals in our (hopefully) newly updated courtyard.

THANK YOU FROM THE RECTOR
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Rev. Laura Dorsey and the Rev. George “Buddy” Murray for taking services while I was away working at the General Convention. Also thanks to our Wardens, Mary Phillips and Sharon Clark for managing things during that time, and a special thanks to Bill Day, who got the A/C back to work on Sunday, June 21 after the lightning strike. Thanks to everyone who pitched in and kept things running smoothly while I was away.
Hildi Knapp, spouse of the Rev. Ron Knapp, Rector of St. Paul’s Church, Hebron, passed away earlier today. Please keep Father Ron and his family in your prayers during this difficult time.
