FEAST OF MARY MAGDELENE
Today is the feast of Mary Magdelene, known as the “apostle to the apostles” for her role in telling the apostles on Easter Sunday that Jesus Christ has risen. The Gospel according to Luke records that Jesus “went on through cities and villages, preaching and brining the good news of the kingdom of God. And the Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out...” (Luke 8:1-2). The Gospels tell us that Mary was healed by Jesus, followed him, and was one of those who stood near his cross at Calvary. Her ministry of service and steadfast companionship, even as a witness to the crucifixion, has through the centuries, been an example of the faithful ministry of women to Christ.
Almighty God, whose blessed Son restored Mary Magdalene to health of body and of mind, and called her to be a witness of his resurrection: Mercifully grant that by your grace we may be healed from all our infirmities and know you in the power of his unending life; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (BCP, p. 241)
VESTRY APPROVES COURTYARD UPGRADE
This past Sunday the Vestry approved a design to upgrade St Peter’s Parish House Courtyard on St. Peter’s Street. The upgrade will increase the surface area to accommodate more people, and there will be new plantings, including boxwoods, around the periphery. Work on the courtyard will begin in early August. Please note that during this time, entrance to the Parish House from the courtyard may be temporarily blocked. The project is being funded entirely through memorial gifts in memory of Rosalind Abbott and Nell Fisher.
CHILDREN’S CHOIR SURVEY
This Sunday and next Sunday a Children’s Choir Survey will be inserted in your worship service bulletin. Please take a few minutes and fill out your survey and turn it in as you leave. Results will help our new Children’s Choir Director Calvin Collins with plans to establish a new Children’s Choir at St. Peter’s. Thank you!
