BISHOP PARSLEY VISITS ST. PETER’S THIS SUNDAY

The Rt. Rev. Henry Nutt Parsley, Bishop Provisional of the Diocese of Easton, will visit St. Peter’s this Sunday, January 17 and will preside and preach at the 9am and 11am worship services.  The visitation of the bishop is an important event in the life of our parish.  The bishop connects us and unites us with the larger church.  He is our chief pastor and teacher.  As part of his responsibilities, Bishop Parsley will receive into the Episcopal Church Chad and Maria Stewart, and Nivek Johnson at the 9am service.  He will be available at coffee hour after all three services.  Envelopes will be provided at the services for the Bishop’s Discretionary Fund.  All contributions will be used by the Bishop to assist people and programs throughout the Diocese of Easton.  Please plan to be present and help greet our bishop as he comes to visit our church this Sunday.

Note that the bishop comes to visit on this coming Sunday when we celebrate our Patronal Feast.  Our Patron Saint is St. Peter, and we will be celebrating the Feast of the Confession of St. Peter.  This feast day is appointed to be celebrated on January 18, but we are allowed to move this feast of our patron to the closest Sunday and use the readings and propers for that feast day instead.  The Confession of St. Peter celebrates the moment in the gospels when Jesus asks his disciples, “But who do you say that I am,” to which Peter responds “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.” Let us pray that we may be so bold as to confess throughout our daily lives in word and actions that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.

MEN’S HOMELESS SHELTER JAN. 16-22

The Community Emergency Shelter Program (CESP) comes to St. Peter’s this Saturday, and runs from January 16 through the morning of January 23.  Once again we will be offering a warm place for homeless men in our community to get a warm supper and to spend the night in our Parish Hall.  We can take up to 40 guests.  Parishioners have volunteered to help sign them in in the evening, prepare meals and stay overnight with them.  The shelter is open evenings and overnight, with guests having to go elsewhere during the day. St. Peter’s is one of many local churches that are taking turns each week hosting the shelter.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered – check the sign up sheet in the hallway near the parlor in the Parish House to be reminded of when you are scheduled to work.

How you can help: We are in need daily of peeled hard boiled eggs and fruit for the men for their breakfasts and lunches.  You can drop off these items any day next week.  Thank you.

For more information, contact the shelter coordinators:  Bill and Trudy Day.

Please note that the Parish Hall is unavailable for activities from 7am January 16 through 12noon January 23.

BRUCE HORNER FUNERAL: JAN. 23

The funeral for Bruce Horner will take place on Saturday, January 23 at 2pm in St. Peter’s Church with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.  Friends may call on the family at 12:30pm that day in the Parlor.  His remains will be interred at Parsons Cemetery.

This funeral will have an abundance of music and musical talent. Included will be St. Peter’s Choir and guest members of the choir, the Children’s Choir, the Hand Bell Choir, and some solo instrumentalists and singers.  Taylor Harvey, organist at St. Andrew’s Church, will play the organ and Robert Young, interim Music Director at St. Peter’s, will direct the choir.  St. Peter’s parish family will host the reception following the service, in loving support for all that Bruce has done for our parish.  The Fellowship and Hospitality Committee is coordinating the reception – contact the committee chair Gil Allen for more information.

Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him.

DEADLINE FOR BISHOP NOMINATIONS IS JANUARY 15

The deadline for nominations for the next Bishop of Easton is Friday, January 15.  For more information on the Bishop Search process, go to
www.dioceseofeaston.org/bishop-search.

FOYER GROUPS ARE FORMING

It is time to organize NEW Foyer Groups. Foyer Groups are eight parishioners who gather once a month for four months either taking turns at home with all contributing to the meal or at a restaurant.  It is a great way to get to know each other. If you are in a foyer group now, it is presumed you will continue and you will be assigned to a new group.    We had two Restaurant Groups and two Home Groups in the Fall, plus one all Women RestaurantGroup. If you would like to join or change from restaurant to home group or vice-versa, please contact Jane Massey at janecurt@comcast.net or 410-546-3230.
SIGN-UP DEADLINE: January 25th.

CALL FOR CHURCH KEYS TO BE RETURNED, AND EXISTING KEYS SIGNED-OUT

We are in need of keys to the church for people who have recently taken on positions in the church that require them to be in the church after hours – specifically our lay worship leaders who officiate at Morning and Evening Prayer.  If you are in possession of a set of church keys but are no longer in a position that requires you to have these keys, please turn them in to the Parish Office as soon as you can.  There is a considerable expense in making new keys which we’d like to avoid if we could recycle existing sets of keys.

There is also now a key sign-out system that is being administered by our Parish Secretary, Cathy Parsons.  All people who possess a set of church keys are asked to let Cathy know they have keys so this information can be logged in the system:
cathyp@stpeterschurch.net.  Thank you for your cooperation.

RECTOR AWAY THROUGH FRIDAY

Father David Michaud is away visiting his parents in Portland, Oregon this week and will return late Friday evening,  January 15. He will be back in time for Sunday, January 17 services.  Deacon Buddy Murray is officiating at today’s Wednesday Noon Healing Service.  Contact the Wardens during this time for any Pastoral Emergencies.
