Peter's Post

Let’s Celebrate Father David’s Installation as Rector this Sunday!

This Sunday at 4pm the Rev. David Michaud will be formally installed as the Rector of St. Peter’s Church, Salisbury Parish and all parishioners are encouraged to attend.  The Rt. Rev. James “Bud” Shand, Bishop of Easton, will preside.  Clergy from around the diocese, Father David’s family, and others have been invited to participate as well.  Organist Bruce Horner, the Festival Choir and Peter’s Voice will provide music .  The liturgy is called the Renewal of Ministry with the Welcoming of a New Rector and it celebrates not only Father David’s ministry but the ministries of everyone in the parish.

Following the service there will be a Reception in the Parish Hall.  A rehearsal for those who have a role in the service will be on Sunday at 2pm in the church.

Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord this Sunday

This Sunday morning we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, which is observed on the First Sunday after the Epiphany.  It is also an opportunity to reflect on the Sacrament of Baptism, which is the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ’s Body, the Church (BCP p. 858).  Baptism is the entrance rite into the church, and often Baptismal fonts (like ours at St. Peter’s) are found next to church building entrances, to remind us that through Baptism we enter into  full membership in the Body of Christ.

St. Peter’s Bus Tour to Washington DC has been Postponed

The trip to Washington DC through American Christian Tours has been postponed because there were not enough people that signed up to reach the 35 person minimum for the proposed date.  Many who had conflicts because of prior commitments expressed their regret in not being able to attend so our Fellowship Committee will revisit the date and scope for this event and hopefully be able to revise and reschedule it later in the year in a way that will make it successful for our Church.

Adult Forum:  Re-imagining the Episcopal Church & the Diocese

On Sundays in January Father David will lead a three part Adult Forum Series on “Re-imagining our Diocese and the Episcopal Church” in light of changes on the horizon for our Diocese and the Episcopal Church.  The series will be held 10:15am -10:50am.  Be informed about your church’s future.  Learn how things operate now, and what changes to structures and policies could mean for St. Peter’s and for Episcopalians in general.  This Sunday the Adult Forum will be held in the Parish Hall unless otherwise noted.
This Sunday’s topic: Where are we now?  Current structure of the Diocese and the Episcopal Church:  History of their establishment, role of the Diocese, the  Bishop, the General Convention, the Presiding Bishop and Councils of the Church.

Next Sunday’s topic: Where are we going? Task Force for Re-imagining the Episcopal Church

Emergency Shelter Begins a Week from Saturday

One of St. Peter’s primary outreach ministries, hosting the Community Emergency Shelter Program (CESP) in St. Peter’s Parish Hall,
begins on Saturday,  January 18 and lasts through January 24.  We are providing hot meals and a warm place to stay at St. Peter’s for homeless men in our community during that time.  There are a few more volunteers needed.  Thank you if you have signed up!

Monetary Donations are also needed to defray the cost of food and supplies.  Checks may be made out to St. Peter’s Church with Men’s Shelter on the memo line and placed in the alms basin or sent to the Parish Office.  Thank you for your support.
