WORSHIP MUSIC FOR THE SUMMER
Congregational singing accompanied by our beautiful organ will be featured at the 10am service this summer. We will be singing some of our favorite hymns at that service, as identified by members of the congregation. There still is time to get your list of favorite hymns to Music Director Bruce Horner, so that your favorites are included in our summer hymnody. Favorite Hymn Forms are available from the Parish Office and can be found on the table outside the parlor during coffee hour.
Peter’s Voice will be providing music on June 21, August 3 and August 17. The Choir will be performing on July 5, including the music offering for God and Country. Different soloists and musicians are being scheduled for various other services. We are singing as our praise hymn for the summer “Bless His Holy Name” in place of the Gloria. So at our summer worship at 10am you will be experiencing a variety of music offerings.
DIOCESE VOTES TO CALL 11TH BISHOP OF EASTON
At a Special Diocesan Convention at Trinity Cathedral, Easton this past Saturday, clergy and delegates led by the Rt. Rev. Henry Parsley discussed the future of the Diocese. Of all the options considered, the Convention decided to pursue requesting the Bishop Provisional, Bishop Parsley (whose term as Bishop ends June 2016) to call for the election of a full time Bishop, along with undertaking initiatives to promote collaboration among parishes, increase evangelism, encourage Christian formation and spirituality, forming a marketing task force, and the establishment of a Heritage Day.
In addition, every Vestry is being asked to submit a pledge for 100% of the 2016 Diocesan asking to the Diocese by September 1. If the Vestry cannot pledge 100% of its Diocesan apportionment, it will be visited by the Diocese’s Listening Committee to discuss its financial situation. At current giving levels from parishes, the Diocese could be around $100,000 short of what is needed to finance the Office of the Bishop, and so parishes are being asked to increase their giving to enable the nomination and election of the 11th Bishop of Easton to go forward.
For 2015, St. Peter’s was able to pledge 50% of the asking to the Diocese, which amounts to $17,000.
ST. PETERS PARTICIPATING IN “MYSTERIOUS” JUNE THIRD FRIDAY EVENT
Julie Milliken and Linda Hurley have been appointed co-coordinators of St. Peter’s Third Friday Downtown activities and they have been working with the Fellowship and Hospitality Committee to plan activities for the June Third Friday Downtown, 5-8pm on June 19.
Third Friday Downtown brings hundreds of people to the Downtown Plaza and features arts and music with a different theme each month. June’s theme is “Mystery Flavors.” Third Friday Downtown is a wonderful evangelism opportunity to introduce people who attend this popular event to St. Peter’s Church, and parish volunteers are needed to help out!
For June we are doing a variation of the theme with this tag line: St. Peter's - Mysteries Revealed! Come discover the mysteries within our historic church. We plan to cook and sell hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks at our courtyard on St. Peter’s Street, and to invite the public into the church to discover some of the church’s “mysteries” from the intricate pattern of bricks to our many stained glass windows. If you are able to help welcome people to our church and grounds, please contact Julie Milliken at email@example.com or Linda Hurley at firstname.lastname@example.org.
HABITAT NEEDS YOUR HELP
Habitat for Humanity is desperately looking for both men and women to help on their current build right across Naylor Street from the post office. Since St. Peters used to have a Habitat crew, it is most fitting to ask for volunteers to represent St. Peters in this build. If Habitat does not get more help, the family is in jeopardy of NOT getting into their house in August as planned. If you can help with this ministry, please contact Megan Fenoglietto at 410-860-9258. Please join our St. Peters team!
This Saturday, June 13, Sean Fahey and Anne Rinehart will be united in Holy Matrimony. Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare for this joyful event.
Debra Bradshaw Chambers, daughter of parishioners Rikki and Phil Bradshaw, died peacefully this past Monday at Hospice on the Lake in Salisbury. Her funeral will be held at St. Peter’s on Thursday, June 18 at 11am. Friends may call on the family in the Parlor an hour before the service. Please keep Rikki, Phil and their family in your prayers during this difficult time.
