Peter's Post

AM I HEARING BELLS?
No, it’s not your imagination.  There’s a lot more ringing of St. Peter’s bell in our bell tower these days, now that the switches that control the ringing of the bell have been relocated to the sacristy (the room just off the chancel).  Now, in addition to the pre-programmed ringing of the hours, the bell can be rung 10 minutes before worship to call people to worship, and when the service does not begin at the top of the hour (like Sunday’s 7:45am service) at the appointed time of worship as well.
There is also the ability to toll the bell during funerals, a feature that was used at the beginning of the funeral for Jan Adams last week.  Many thanks to the Property Committee for installing the new controls.

SUNDAY SCHOOL/YOUTH/PARISH OUTREACH PROJECT FOR LENT
During Lent, the Sunday School children will be working on a special outreach project.  With the help of the Outreach Committee, we will be collecting much-needed items to donate to the Christian Shelter.
Last Sunday the children decorated a large box, which is located outside the parlor.  Children, teens, and all adults are invited to put items in the box, which will be brought up on the Red Wagon (the children’s outreach wagon) during the offertory on Palm Sunday.  Here is the list of items needed that can be placed in the box (lists are also available next to the box):
Toilet paper, paper towels, disposable diapers, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, trash bags (any size), paper napkins, cold & flu meds, pain meds, deodorant, razors and shave cream, hair brushes & combs, Pampers (size 3&4), rags & sponges, brooms, mops & mop heads, spray cleaners (bleach, pine), ammonia, ajax & comet, toilet cleaners, bleach, laundry detergent.  Sugar, flour, coffee, tea bags, powered drinks, juices, vegetable oil, peanut butter, mayonnaise, pasta, jams & jellies, rice, snacks. Linens: sheets and towels.

We hope that everyone will participate in this special project during Lent by bringing in items that will be donated to people in need.  Thank you for your help!

CAMPAIGN FOR CHILDREN’S CHOIR ROBES EXCEEDS GOAL
Thanks to the generosity of members of the parish, over $1,200 has been raised to purchase blue cassocks and white cottas for the Children’s Choir.  The additional dollars raised will be put toward purchasing some extra choir robes with the expectation that the choir will grow – both in numbers, and members will grow out of their current robes and need larger ones (that’s what young folks do!).  Look for them in their new robes in time for Easter.

DIOCESAN CONVENTION FEB. 26 & 27
Anyone can attend the Diocese of Easton’s annual convention on Friday, February 26 and Saturday, February 27 at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge.  In addition to the business meeting, there is also a banquet, workshops, and a number of vendors and exhibitors with materials of interest to Episcopalians.  There is a registration fee to offset site and materials costs.  For more information, go to the Diocese of Easton website:
www.dioceseofeaston.org or pick up an information and registration packet on the table outside the parlor at coffee hour on Sunday.

LENTEN STUDY SERIES CONTINUE
Adult Lenten Series on “the Different Passions of Our Lord Jesus Christ” continues each Tuesday duing Lent in the Parish Hall:  potluck begins at 6:00pm (bring a food to share); the class runs from 6:40pm to 7:45pm.  Next Tuesday:  the Passion according to St. Matthew.  All are invited.

The Women’s Bible Study Group during Lent is studying the Beth Moore series “Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophecy.”  Join Beth in a faith-building study of prophecy and learn how to live with integrity in today’s self-absorbed society.  The prophet Daniel faced unbelievable pressures to compromise his faith, to live in a hostile culture, and to confront temptations and threats.  Today, believers in Jesus Christ face many of the same trials.  When and Where: Saturdays in the Parish Hall, 8:30am-10:30am.  Contact Bravard Cornbrooks for more information.

ALMSGIVING

UTO blue mite boxes are available outside the parlor during coffee hour for you to take home. Every time you are blessed in your week, put a coin in the UTO mite box in thanksgiving.  The boxes will be gathered during the offering on the second Sunday of Easter.

 COFFEE HOUR HOSTS NEEDED

Will you help with St. Peter’s ministry of hospitality by signing up to host a coffee hour?  Volunteers are needed for the next few Sundays.  The responsibilities of a coffee hour host are listed on the inside of the closet door of the supply closet in the parlor.  The sign up board is on the same door.  Thank you!
