Peter's Post

A HAPPY AND JOYFUL CHRISTMAS TO YOU

Today is the 6th Day of Christmas – we are only half-way through the Christmas Season so keep on feasting!  Christmas lasts until the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6.

HOLY EUCHARIST ON JAN 1

January 1 is the Feast of the Holy Name, and we will celebrate that feast day with Holy Communion at 12noon this Friday at St. Peter’s.  Many people look forward to starting the New Year with this worship service.  All are welcome to attend.

ST. PETER’S TO OBSERVE EPIPHANY ON JAN. 6

St. Peter’s will observe the principal feast of the Epiphany, remembering the visit of the Magi to the Christ Child, on its feast day of January 6, next Wednesday at 6pm.  Following the service of Holy Eucharist there will be a Cajun Dinner featuring jambalaya, red beans and rice and King Cake for dessert, prepared by Father David and Kelli Michaud (wear your Mardi Gras beads if you have them!).  After dinner we’ll go upstairs to the church and work off our meal by taking down the Christmas decorations.  Epiphany is the traditional start of the carnival season which continues through Mardi Gras, or “Fat Tuesday” which we call Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, the start of the Season of Lent.

Come to St. Peter’s for one last Christmas celebration next Wednesday
as we observe the Feast of the Epiphany.  Note:  there will be incense used at the service.

BRUCE HORNER

Our Music Director, Bruce Horner, continues to be sedated and unconscious in critical condition in the ICU at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE since arriving there Dec. 22.   Please keep him and his family in your prayers during this difficult time.

ROBERT YOUNG NAMED INTERIM MUSIC DIRECTOR

St. Peter’s welcomes Robert Young as our organist and Interim Music Director for the month of January.

Robert will play the organ at the 9am and 11am worship services, be responsible for worship music for the five Sundays in January and oversee the choirs and music ministries at St. Peter’s Church. Robert, who is Episcopalian, retires tomorrow as the Music Director at Asbury United Methodist Church.  We are grateful that he has agreed to lend his considerable talents, skills and experience to help us with our music program at this time.

OFFERING ENVELOPES

Pick up your 2016 offering envelopes.  They are waiting for you on the table in the parlor.
Don’t see your name?  Let an usher or the Parish Office know and we’ll see that you get a set all your own.

SANCTUARY CANDLES – WEEKS AVAILABLE IN 2016

The 2016 sign up calendar has now been posted on the bulletin board in the hallway in the Parish House for weeks in 2016 for both the High Altar Sanctuary Candle and the Family Altar Sanctuary Candle.  Donation is $10 per week and helps defray the cost of the candle that the Altar Guild keeps lit for the Reserved Sacrament in the tabernacles.  You may sign up for an open week to have the candle burn in memory or in honor of loved ones.  Take a look at what’s available during coffee hour after worship.

OFFICE HOURS DURING CHRISTMAS SEASON

The Parish Office is closed on Friday, January 1; and will be open limited hours today and tomorrow (you may want to call the office in advance to make sure someone is here 410-742-5118).

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED TO HELP WITH THE MEN’S HOMELESS SHELTER JAN. 16-22

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Matthew 25:35)

Volunteers are needed for St. Peter’s week of the emergency men’s shelter Jan 16-22 in the Parish Hall for overnight watch, for helping check in guests, and to help with the evening meals. Take a look at the sign up sheet in the hallway outside the parlor at coffee hour this Sunday and sign up to help.   Bill Day is organizing the overnights, and Trudy Day is organizing the dinners.  Please contact them for more information.

Thank you for helping with this important and life-saving ministry!
