A BLESSED CHRISTMAS TO YOU!
Our Altar Guild and their helpers are putting up the final Christmas decorations in the church this afternoon in anticipation of our liturgical celebrations of Christmas at St. Peter’s tomorrow evening and on Christmas Day.
For our Christmas Eve services we will feature a half hour of Christmas music prior to the start of the services, so be sure to come early.
5pm Christmas Eve Service features music by Peter’s Voice, St. Peter’s Grace Notes Bell Choir, and the Children’s Choir, and is a favorite service for families. Children may be part of the opening procession to the crèche where the figurines will be placed and prayed upon at the beginning of the service. All children who want to participate are asked to come to the library in the Parish House 15 minutes before the service. The service of Holy Eucharist will also include the singing of Silent Night after Communion.
11pm Christmas Eve Service is our traditional sung service featuring music by St. Peter’s Choir, soloists, and St. Peter’s organ. The service begins with a station at the crèche, and features the singing of many traditional Christmas carols and an Offertory Anthem by the choir. Members of the congregation will light candles at the singing of Silent Night after Communion. Beautiful, traditional Anglican worship at its finest.
10am Christmas Day Service is a simple, said service of Holy Eucharist in the church that many look forward to as a peaceful and meaningful way to welcome this holy day.
Come and Celebrate Christmas as St. Peter’s – and invite others to experience the wonder and beauty of St. Peter’s with you as well.
SPECIAL SERVICES THIS SUNDAY: 8AM AND 10AM
This coming Sunday, December 27, there will be only two worship services Sunday morning: 8am Holy Eucharist Rite I and 10am Christmas Lessons and Carols. There is no Holy Communion at the Christmas Lessons and Carols service. St. Peter’s Choir, the Children’s Choir, Grace Notes Hand Bell Choir and soloists will be participating in the Christmas Lessons and Carols service. Whatever Christmas carols we couldn’t fit in our Christmas Eve services we’ll try to sing at Lessons and Carols. Come and be part of the continuing feasting at the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as we continue celebrating during the Christmas Season.
Note: We return to three Sunday services on January 3.
HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY, ELLEN BLOODSWORTH!
Parishioner Ellen Bloodsworth turns 100 on December 28, and we’re celebrating with a reception in her honor hosted by her family in St. Peter’s Parish Hall Sunday, December 27th after the 10am service of Christmas Lessons and Carols. Ellen is the guest of honor and there will be a short program of appreciation as part of the reception for the more than 100 people expected to attend. Happy Birthday Ellen!
Thank you to everyone who picked up their 2016 offering envelopes last Sunday. We went from two tables to one table. That table is now in the Parlor – If you haven’t picked up your envelopes yet, please find your name on your box of envelopes after worship and take them home with you. Don’t see your name? Let an usher or the Parish Office know and we’ll see that you get a set all your own.
SANCTUARY CANDLES – WEEKS AVAILABLE IN 2016
The 2016 sign up calendar has now been posted on the bulletin board in the hallway in the Parish House for weeks in 2016 for both the High Altar Sanctuary Candle and the Family Altar Sanctuary Candle. Donation is $10 per week and helps defray the cost of the candle that the Altar Guild keeps lit for the Reserved Sacrament in the tabernacles. You may sign up for an open week to have the candle burn in memory or in honor of loved ones. Take a look at what’s available during coffee hour after worship.
OFFICE HOURS DURING CHRISTMAS SEASON
The Parish Office is closed on December 25; Monday, December 28; and Friday, January 1; and will be open the morning of December 24, and limited hours December 29-31.
THE OTHER FEAST DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
Did you know that Christmas (Dec. 25) and Epiphany (Jan. 6) are not the only feasts on the Church calendar at this time of year? There’s also St. Stephen, Deacon and Martyr, Day (Sat., Dec 26) St. John, Apostle and Evangelist, Day (Sun., Dec 27) The Holy Innocents Day (Mon., Dec 28) and Holy Name Day (Fri., Jan 1). Now that we have the practice of Daily Prayer in the church, we have the opportunity to celebrate all the feasts of the Christmas Season on their appointed days. You are welcome any day of the week to come to St. Peter’s for prayer and worship. Why not make Morning Prayer, Noon Eucharist, or Evening Prayer part of your devotional practice, particular on these feast days?
Here’s a reminder of our weekday service times
Monday: Morning Prayer 9:30am (note this Monday, Dec. 28, there is Evening Prayer instead, at 5:30pm)
Tuesday: Evening Prayer 5:30pm
Wednesday: Holy Eucharist, 12noon
Thursday: Evening Prayer, 5:00pm
Friday: Morning Prayer, 8:30am
Saturday, Morning Prayer, 8:30am
VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED TO HELP WITH THE MEN’S HOMELESS SHELTER JAN. 16-22
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Matthew 25:35)
Volunteers are needed for St. Peter’s week of the emergency men’s shelter Jan 16-22 in the Parish Hall for overnight watch, for helping check in guests, and to help with the evening meals. Take a look at the sign up sheet in the hallway outside the parlor at coffee hour this Sunday and sign up to help. Bill Day is organizing the overnights, and Trudy Day is organizing the dinners. Please contact them for more information.
Thank you for helping with this important and life-saving ministry!
ADULT BAPTISM CLASS
This is the last week to sign up for the adult baptism class for adults who have not been baptized and who are interested exploring membership in the church through the sacrament of baptism. The classes will be taught by the Rector. Classes will be held on a weekly basis in January through March at a time convenient to those who enroll in the class. Those who complete the class are able to receive the sacrament of Baptism during the Great Vigil of Easter, on Easter Eve, March 26.
