Peter's Post

A BLESSED ADVENT TO YOU!

We are now in the Season of Advent, a season of preparation and anticipation.  The church uses this time to focus on Christ’s second coming at the end of time, and Our Lord's instructions to prepare ourselves and to  “be alert at all times, praying that you may have the to stand before the Son of Man."

This Sunday evening, December 6, at 7pm is our annual candlelight service of Advent Lessons and Carols, featuring six lessons of prophecy from Holy Scriptures and six carols appropriate for the season, led by St. Peter’s Choir.  It is a beautiful and meaningful service in which we anticipate the light of Christ coming into our lives.  Plan to come to the church Sunday evening and experience this moving liturgy; invite friends and family to join you.

SIGN UP THIS SUNDAY TO HELP WITH THE MEN’S HOMELESS SHELTER

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Matthew 25:35)

Once again St. Peter’s is participating in Salisbury’s community emergency shelter program to provide shelter this winter for homeless men and prevent any one of them from freezing to death in the cold.  St. Peter’s will host the shelter in the Parish Hall from January 16 through January 22, providing a warm place to sleep, a warm supper and breakfast, and a bag lunch.

Volunteers are needed for overnight watch, for helping check in guests, and to help with the evening meals.  Sign-up sheets will be available at coffee hour after worship services beginning this Sunday, December 6.  Parishioner Bill Day is organizing the overnights, and Trudy Day is organizing the dinners.  Please contact them for more information.

Thank you for helping with this important and life-saving ministry!

CHRISTMAS PROJECT FOR OUR PARTNER SCHOOL WI-MIDDLE

We are collecting gift cards from Kohl’s, Wal-Mart and Old Navy to give to the coordinator of the CARES program at Wi-Middle to help her purchase items for needy children and their families for Christmas.  If you would like to participate, purchase a gift card in the amount you would like, place it in an envelope with the amount marked on the outside, and place gift cards in a pocket at the Wi-Middle Christmas Project display in the Parlor or send them to the Parish Office.  Please have all cards turned in by December 14.  Thank you!

LIVING WELL THROUGH ADVENT

Extra Living Well through Advent devotional booklets are available at the table outside the parlor for those who are interested in following these daily meditations.  The focus this year is on practicing patience with all your heart, soul, strength and mind. Available while they last.  During the week, Dr. Barbara Anne Fisher is leading studies on this book during Advent, on December 7, 14, and 21 at St. Peters at the 10am Comforters Group meeting, and at St. Albans Salisbury December 9 and 16 at 6:30pm. All are invited.

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS AND GREENS

In this Sunday’s bulletin, look for order forms for Christmas flowers and greens.  Poinsettia suggested donation is $10 per plant.  Forms can also be found at the Parish Office.  Deadline for orders is December 20.

OFFICE SPACE FOR LEASE IN PARISH ANNEX

We are looking for a new tenant to occupy Suite C on the first floor of the Parish Annex.  Please spread the word and encourage inquiries.  Renting space helps to pay the costs of operating the building, and since it’s currently vacant, the parish is having to absorb more costs.  The listing is with Sperry Van Ness.  It is featured currently on our parish website, and information can be found at:
