New Year’s Day Service
12:00 noon -- Feast of the Holy Name, Holy Eucharist: Rite I
Epiphany Service and Supper January 6

This year on January 6 we will celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, also known as the Manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles.  The Epiphany is one of the six principal feasts of the church year.  It falls immediately after the 12 Days of Christmas, and begins a new season in the Church calendar.  On that day we hear in Matthew’s Gospel  he story of the magi or wise men.
The significance of the Epiphany is that it is the first time in the Scriptures that Gentiles, those outside the Jewish nation, behold the Christ child, signifying that Jesus is not just the Messiah of the Jewish people, but the Savior of the world – and the world represented by the magi comes to pay homage to him.
Epiphany has also become in many parts of this country the start of the carnival or Mardi Gras season.  On that day people begin baking King Cakes colorfully decorated with purple, green and yellow, said to be the traditional colors of the three kings.  Keeping with that fun tradition, the Michaud’s are cooking up a Cajun supper in the Parish Hall after the January 6 service of sausage jambalaya, red beans and rice and of course King Cake.  Everyone who attends the Epiphany service is encouraged to stay for supper – bring your Mardi Gras beads if you have them and celebrate the feast of Epiphany.

2014 Offering Envelopes are here!
2014 Offering Envelopes are now available for you to pick up at Coffee Hour after the church services.  Whether or not  you have made a pledge, if you come regularly to St. Peter’s and make offerings, please use the church envelopes – it makes it easier for the offering counters to keep track of your contributions and provide you with an accurate statement of your donations.  Thank you!

Parents Meeting Sunday January 5
Father David is inviting all parents with children under 18 to join him in the Parish Hall at 10:15am between the 9am and 11am services on Sunday, January 5 for a discussion about programs and activities that could be undertaken for youth and families in 2014.  Drop your children off at Sunday School, grab a cup of coffee and join Father David and fellow parents for an informal discussion about how your parish can be responsive to the needs and concerns of families in our church.  Mark your calendars.
St. Peter’s Bus Trip to Washington DC April 25-27

A trip to Washington DC through American Christian Tours has been scheduled for April 25-27 for members and friends of St. Peter’s Church.  This trip will highlight the Christian faith of our Founding Fathers and include visits to some of DC’s historic buildings and sites.  Those interested must commit by January 13, 2014.  Information is available this Sunday at church. Contact Andy Booth for more information.

Sign up sheets now available for CESP and Installation Reception
Sign up sheets have now been posted outside the Parlor for volunteers to sign up to help with one of St. Peter’s primary outreach ministries:  hosting the Community Emergency Shelter Program (CESP) in St. Peter’s Parish Hall January 18-25.  We are providing hot meals and a warm place to stay at St. Peter’s for homeless men in our community during that time.  Volunteers are needed to help set up and stay overnight, and to help cook and serve meals.  Will you help?  Please sign up during coffee hour on Sunday.  Contact Outreach Committee Chair Bill Day for more information.
Sign up sheets have also been posted outside the Parlor for volunteers to help with the reception on January 12 following the Celebration of New Ministry service at 4pm when Father David will be formally installed by the Bishop as our new Rector.  Volunteers are needed to cook and to help with set up, decorations, serving and clean up.  Help make this a great celebration by giving of your time and talent – please sign up to help during coffee hour on Sunday.  Contact Fellowship & Hospitality Committee Chair Gil Allen for more information.
