Christmas at St. Peter’s
Preparations are underway for our celebration of the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and throughout the 12 days of the Christmas Season. Christmas is a time of joy and feasting as we celebrate our belief of God’s incarnation in human flesh, dwelling with us. We will hear again at St. Peter’s on Christmas Eve the story of Christ’s humble birth in Bethlehem and join the angelic chorus in singing hymns of praise and adoration.
On Christmas Eve, our Family Service begins at 5pm, but music will begin at 4:30pm. This has customarily been our most crowded service, so allow plenty of time to get to church on that day. We will have a procession to the Christmas Creche in which the children of the parish are invited to participate by bringing to the crèche a figurine to be placed there. Parents are asked that their children go to the Parish House Library by 4:45pm to participate. In addition, Peter’s Voice and soloists will lead the congregation in Christmas music at this service.
Later that evening we will have our traditional candlelight Christmas Eve Solemn Eucharist at 11pm. Music by our festival choir and soloists will begin at 10:30pm, so make sure to arrive to hear the pre-service musical offerings. A station at the Christmas Creche, the singing of Silent Night by candlelight, and special music are all part of this service. There is usually more seating available at the 11pm service than at the earlier service.
In addition, there will be a said service on Christmas Day at 10am in the church.
At St. Peter’s we are striving to be a more inviting church that is more intentional about fellowship and hospitality. So spread the word. Tell people you know about our Christmas services and invite them to join is in worship on this most holy day.
Children’s Christmas Pageant this Sunday
The children of the parish will present their Christmas Pageant program this Sunday, December 22, immediately following the 9am service downstairs in the Parish Hall. All parishioners are encouraged to attend and support our youth as they explore in a fun and unique way the story of Our Savior’s birth in Bethlehem. The program should begin around 10:15 am and conclude prior to the 11am service.
Attention parents and children: Dress rehearsal will be held Friday December 20 at 5 pm in Parish Hall. We will have pizza and birthday cake. For more information , contact Sherri Hall.
Greening of the Church
We will begin our decorating for Christmas this Sunday, December 22, after the 11:00 service of Holy Eucharist. Help is needed to hang greenery, set up the crèche, move chairs, and other tasks to ready our church for Christmas. Please come to the church by 12:30pm and lend a hand. Contact Betty Lou Davis for more information. Thank you.
St. Peter’s Bus Trip to Washington DC April 25-27
A trip to Washington DC through American Christian Tours has been scheduled for April 25-27 for members and friends of St. Peter’s Church. This trip will highlight the Christian faith of our Founding Fathers and include visits to some of DC’s historic buildings and sites. Those interested must commit by January 13, 2014. Information is available this Sunday at church and will soon be posted on the parish website. Contact Andy Booth for more information.
Sign up sheets now available for CESP and Installation Reception
Sign up sheets have now been posted outside the Parlor for volunteers to sign up to help with one of St. Peter’s primary outreach ministries: hosting the Community Emergency Shelter Program (CESP) in St. Peter’s Parish Hall January 18-25. We are providing hot meals and a warm place to stay at St. Peter’s for homeless men in our community during that time. Volunteers are needed to help set up and stay overnight, and to help cook and serve meals. Will you help? Please sign up during coffee hour on Sunday. Contact Outreach Committee Chair Bill Day for more information.
Sign up sheets have also been posted outside the Parlor for volunteers to help with the reception on January 12 following the Celebration of New Ministry service at 4pm when Father David will be formally installed by the Bishop as our new Rector. Volunteers are needed to cook and to help with set up, decorations, serving and clean up. Help make this a great celebration by giving of your time and talent – please sign up to help during coffee hour on Sunday. Contact Fellowship & Hospitality Committee Chair Gil Allen for more information.
2014 Envelopes Now Available
2014 Envelope Books will be available for pickup in the Harrington Room this Sunday through Jan. 12th. Please, pick them up as they cost the Parish over $2 to mail. Also, please review your name and address ensure the information is correct. If you have a correction notify the Parish Office.
Canned Food Drive Continues this Sunday
During Sundays in Advent we are collecting nonperishable food items at each worship service for delivery to organizations that feed the hungry here in our community. As part of our outreach ministry in December, the Outreach Committee is highlighting a different local organization each week. This Sunday all the food collected will be delivered to HALO ministries. When you’re out shopping this week, why not put a few extra items in your shopping cart for those in need, and bring your canned goods or other nonperishable items to church this Sunday. Thank you!
