BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS THIS SUNDAY
Attention students of all ages: bring your school backpack to church this Sunday, August 28 at the 10am service for the Blessing of the Backpacks. There will be prayers for students and teachers as we look forward to the upcoming academic year. Mark your calendars and bring your backpacks!
BAPTISM THIS SUNDAY
At this Sunday’s 10am service Harrison Moore, son of Mary Kate and Kevin Moore, will receive the Sacrament of Baptism. Please keep Harrison and his parents in your prayers as they await this blessed event.
CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST ENDS SUNDAY
This Sunday is the last opportunity to bring your clothes donations to church in our campaign to stock the clothes closet for our partner school Wi-Middle. The donations have been overwhelming so far. Thank you for your participation!
I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing. (Matt: 25:35-36)
SIGN UP FOR PARISH DISCERNMENT COTTAGE MEETINGS
Not many people have signed up yet to participate in discussions this September about the future of St. Peter’s Church – this is a critical part of our discernment process as we discern our future together as a parish and your input is very important. At coffee hour this Sunday, please go to the sign up table and indicate which meeting you would like to attend. We need to know how many are interested in each time so we can have enough facilitators. There may be between one and four meetings at a particular time, depending on how many people are interested in that time slot. All meetings are held at St. Peter’s.
The meetings should take an hour or so. We will begin with a video presentation and then have discussions in groups of 10 to 12 led by a member of the Vestry. Vestry members are being trained through Episcopal Church Foundation to facilitate these sessions.
Here are the dates and times for the meetings:
Wednesday, Sept. 7th (10 a.m. & 7 p.m.);
Thursday, Sept. 8th (7 p.m.);
Sunday, Sept. 11th (1 p.m.);
Monday, Sept. 12th (10 a.m., 7 p.m.);
Tuesday, Sept. 13th (7 p.m.);
Wednesday, Sept. 14th (7 p.m.); and
Sunday, Sept. 18th (10:15 a.m.)
HAND BELL CHOIR RESUMES REHEARSALS NEXT WEEK – NEW RINGERS WELCOME!
It’s all about the music! Grace Notes, our handbell choir, is a very important part of the music ministry at St. Peter’s and adds a beautiful element to the worship experience. Our members age in range from middle school through adult and have varying musical abilities.
If you are interested in exploring this wonderful musical opportunity, please come on Thursday, September 1st or Thursday, September 8th at 5:30pm to the Handbell Choir Room on the second floor of the Parish House. We will teach you the basic ins and outs of playing handbells in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. No musical experience required and no commitment required (unless, of course, you end up liking it!!).
If you have any questions, please contact Megan Fenoglietto, Grace Notes handbell choir director.
KEY SINGERS RESUMES AUG. 30
Practices for St. Peter’s Children’s and Youth Choir will resume on August 30th at 6 PM in the Key Singer’s Choir Room! The new name “Key Singers” encompasses the role of the singer to be the key part of the choir, just as each of us is a key part of the kingdom of God. If you have any children or youth who like to sing or you hear singing in the car, please let Calvin Collins know at Musicalcollins@gmail.com or between worship services for more information. Christ welcomes all just as this choir welcomes all people who desire a challenge in music excellency and to know and serve God through music. Please pray for the parents, children, and youth in this choir. If you would like to help out with the choir during practices, please let Calvin know.
MINISTRY FAIR SEPTEMBER 11
On September 11 we return to three worship services on Sunday and on that day we will hold our annual Ministry Fair downstairs in the Parish Hall. Be sure to come down and see all the ministries St. Peter’s has to offer and how you can be involved. This is also the place to register for Children’s Sunday School and the Trailblazers Youth Group.
CARING FOR CREATION: WICOMICO RIVER CLEAN UP SEPT 17
The Wicomico Interfaith Partners for Creation Stewardship which includes St. Peter’s is hosting a clean up of the Wicomico River and its downtown surroundings in conjunction with International Coastal Clean Up Day on Saturday, September 17th from 10:00am to 12:30pm. Since this clean up will take place downtown where St. Peter’s is located, it would be wonderful to have folks from St. Peter’s taking part. Everyone will meet at the downtown parking lot on the Wicomico River next to Market Street Inn. Bring water, gloves, hat, sunscreen – and your boat if you wish to clean up from the water. Mark your calendars and plan to attend to help care for God’s creation. For more information contact John Groutt: email@example.com 443-523-0204
ADULT ACOLYTES NEEDED FOR THIS FALL
With four of our Acolytes having graduated and headed off to college for the fall, we have fewer youth left to carry out the responsibilities of the acolyte server position. As such we are in need this fall of some adults who would be willing to be trained to serve as Acolytes for the 11am worship service. An acolyte lights and extinguishes the candles, assists the priest at the altar, carries the processional cross, and some other responsibilities. A training will be held this Sunday after the 10am service. If you are interested in helping out this fall in this ministry, please contact Fr. David soon at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the Parish office at 410-742-5118. This is meant to be a temporary measure until we can train additional youth later in the fall as Acolytes.
SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS NEEDED
Do you have the gift of teaching? Are you interested in seeing that our young people grow in knowledge of Jesus Christ and Christian beliefs and practices? Would you consider giving of our time and talent as part of a team of teachers for our elementary and pre-K Sunday school classes this year? We are in need of adults to teach Sunday School. A schedule has already been established and you would not have to teach every Sunday. The curriculum is very accessible and does not require involved preparations. If you feel strongly about Christian formation of our youth and have interest and skills in teaching youth, please contact the Sunday School Coordinator, Bravard Cornbrooks, at email@example.com; 410-749-0245.
FOBS AND CARDS AVAILABLE FOR KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM
The Parish House Keyless Entry System has been installed and is operational. If you are on the key list, please pick up your fob from the Parish Office during business hours. Those who are not on the current list and those who would like a fob should contact the rector, Fr. David, whom the Vestry has given responsibility for the distribution of fobs and cards for the keyless entry system.
