THIS SUNDAY IS GREEN HILL SUNDAY
This Sunday, August 21, is Green Hill Sunday. Services are as follows: 8am at St. Peter’s Church; 11am at Old Green Hill Church with the picnic to follow. The five Wicomico Episcopal Parishes, including St. Peter’s, that descend from Green Hill come together one Sunday a year to hold this worship service. This year, our Rector, Father David, will be the celebrant and Deacon Buddy Murray will be the Deacon. The Rev. Dennis Morgan of St. Mary’s Tyaskin is the preacher.
Green Hill Sunday has been an annual tradition since the mid 19th Century, when the church was renovated and consecrated as “St. Bartholomew’s Church.” Green Hill Sunday occurs on or near the feast of St. Bartholomew on August 24. Green Hill Church was built in 1733 and is one of the oldest structures in Wicomico County. Situated on the banks of the Wicomico River, it served as the colonial parish church of Stepney Parish, which was established in 1692 as one of the original Maryland parishes of the Church of England. The brick church contains box pews and a large wood pulpit and altar table.
Just a reminder that there is no air conditioning in this historic church, so please dress appropriately for the weather. At the present, the forecast is calling for some hot weather.
All St. Peter’s parishioners who attend the picnic are asked to contribute a salad or side dish. There will be a combined choir under the direction of St. Alban’s Music Director Veronica Tomanek and all singers are encouraged to participate – rehearsal will take place at 10:30am before the service at Green Hill Church.
Volunteers are needed this Saturday morning, August 20, at 8am to move tables, chairs and tents from St. Peter’s out to Green Hill Church, and then to pack everything back up after the picnic on August 21 and bring them back to St. Peter’s. Let Gil Allen or the parish office know if you plan to help.
BAPTISM THIS SUNDAY
At this Sunday’s 8am service at St. Peter’s, Lillian Townsend, great granddaughter of parishioners Jack and Bobbie Cragg, will receive the Sacrament of Baptism. Please keep Lillian and her parents in your prayers as they await this blessed event.

The Parish Office will be closed this Friday, August 19.
St. Peter’s is open for Salisbury’s Third Friday this Friday from 5pm to 8pm. The August theme is “wheels” and St. Peter's courtyard will feature the "Finish Line Grill"-Grab a seat and enjoy our grilled burgers & hot dogs, snack & drinks! Cool fans blowing!
ADULT ACOLYTES NEEDED FOR THIS FALL
With four of our Acolytes having graduated and headed off to college for the fall, we have fewer youth left to carry out the responsibilities of the acolyte server position. As such we are in need this fall of some adults who would be willing to be trained to serve as Acolytes for the 11am worship service. An acolyte lights and extinguishes the candles, assists the priest at the altar, carries the processional cross, and some other responsibilities. A training will be held early fall. If you are interested in helping out this fall in this ministry, please contact Fr. David soon at email@example.com or call the Parish office at 410-742-5118. This is meant to be a temporary measure until we can train additional youth later in the fall as Acolytes.
BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS – SUN., AUGUST 28
Attention all students: bring your school backpack to church on Sunday, August 28 at the 10am service for the Blessing of the Backpacks. There will be prayers for students and teachers as we look forward to the upcoming academic year. Mark your calendars and bring your backpacks!

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS NEEDED
Do you have the gift of teaching? Are you interested in seeing that our young people grow in knowledge of Jesus Christ and Christian beliefs and practices? Would you consider giving of our time and talent as part of a team of teachers for our elementary and pre-K Sunday school classes this year? We are in need of adults to teach Sunday School. A schedule has already been established and you would not have to teach every Sunday. The curriculum is very accessible and does not require involved preparations. If you feel strongly about Christian formation of our youth and have interest and skills in teaching youth, please contact the Sunday School Coordinator, Bravard Cornbrooks, at email@example.com; 410-749-0245.
CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST
Our campaign to stock the clothes closet for our partner school Wi-Middle continues through August.
At coffee hour Sunday take one or more ornaments off the tree in the parlor which list specific items of clothing, shop for those items, bring them to church this month and place in the collection receptacle by the tree. All the items will be delivered to Wi-Middle Labor Day weekend. Thank you for your generous support for this important outreach ministry.
I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing. (Matt: 25:35-36)
FOBS AND CARDS AVAILABLE FOR KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM
The Parish House Keyless Entry System has been installed and is operational. If you are on the key list, please pick up your fob on Sunday or by visiting the Parish Office during business hours. Those who are not on the current list and those who would like a fob should contact the rector, Fr. David, whom the Vestry has given responsibility for the distribution of fobs and cards for the keyless entry system.
