Peter's Post

THIS SUNDAY IS GREEN HILL SUNDAY!
Sunday services: 8am @ St. Peter’s; 11am @ Green Hill Church

This Sunday congregations from the five Episcopal Churches of Wicomico County will come together at the mother church, Old Green Hill, for our annual Holy Eucharist and combined picnic afterwards on the banks of the Wicomico River. Let’s have good attendance from St. Peter’s – make plans to come out for a memorable worship service and good food, fellowship and fun at the picnic.  The service scheduled for 11am at Green Hill Church.  Click here for a map and instructions:
http://www.stpeterschurch.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Green-Hill-Map-2-1.pdf  There will be an 8am service that day at St. Peter’s, but no 10am service that day so that we can attend the Green Hill service.

Weather forecast so far for Sunday is calling for partly sunny with highs in the low 80’s.  Since the church has no A/C, dress appropriately for the weather.

St. Peter’s Choir to lead music

This year St. Peter’s is providing the music for the service under the leadership of our new Adult Choir.  Choir rehearsal for the service is tomorrow, Thursday, August 20, at 7:30pm in St. Peter’s Music Room.  Singers from the other churches have also been invited to be part of the choir for this Sunday.  All are welcomed to join in the choir.  Bruce Horner needs some assistance Sunday morning after the 8:00am service to load up music equipment to take to Green Hill Church.  Let Bruce know if you can help with that:
 bhorner@stpeterschurch.net.

Help Needed for the Picnic

Each church is taking responsibility for bringing different items to the Green Hill Picnic.  This year, St. Peter’s is responsible for the entrée, paper products, tents, tables and chairs.  The Fellowship and Hospitality Committee is coordinating this and will be purchasing chicken, ham and biscuits for the entrée.  They also need your help to assist them in loading St. Peter’s tables and chairs from the Parish Hall onto trucks to set up on the grounds of Green Hill church this Saturday.   Will you help?  Come to St. Peters on Saturday at 10:00am and help your church. Thank you!

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS THIS FRIDAY

This Friday is Third Friday Downtown and the theme this month is “Dog Days of Summer.” Once again St. Peter’s will be featuring the Blessing of the Animals in our courtyard this Friday, August 21.  Blessings are scheduled for 5:30pm and 6:15pm.  All are welcome.

While you are at Third Friday, walk east down the Plaza and check out our sister church, St. Alban’s labyrinth walk.  Pets are welcome there too.

RIDES NEEDED TO SUNDAY WORSHIP

Pastoral Care Committee Chair Laura McCarthy is in need of volunteers to help bring a parishioner to church who is unable to drive.  Will you help?  As she has with some other parishioners who are being brought to church, Laura will set up a schedule so that you won’t have to provide a ride every week, but maybe once or twice a month.  If you are interested, please contact Laura at
ljmccarthy1966@gmail.com or the Parish Office.

CLOTHING DRIVE CONTINUES: “CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST”

As a faith partner to Wicomico Middle School, St. Peter’s is helping to stock a clothes closet at the school to help those children who do not have adequate clothing and are in need of shirts, socks, pants, underwear and sweatshirts.  St. Peter’s Outreach Committee has set up a tree in the Parlor at Coffee Hour on Sundays that contains paper “ornaments” listing children’s clothing items and sizes.  The Committee is asking parishioners to pick one or more ornaments from the tree, purchase new items described on the ornament and deliver them unwrapped to the baskets at church by August 29.  The Committee will deliver these items to Wicomico Middle School for use throughout the year.  It’s a lot like buying gifts for those in need for Christmas, only by participating in this clothing drive, you’ll be part of “Christmas in August.”  Thank you to those who have already taken an ornament to help us stock the clothes closet for Wi-Middle.
