PRAYER FOR THE BEAUTY OF THE EARTH

Today is Earth Day, a wonderful opportunity to give thanks to God for what we have been given.

We give you thanks, most gracious God, for the beauty of earth and sky and sea; for the richness of mountains, plains, and rivers; for the songs of birds and the loveliness of flowers. We praise you for these good gifts, and pray that we may safeguard them for our posterity. Grant that we may continue
to grow in our grateful enjoyment of your abundant creation, to the honor and glory of your Name, now and for ever. Amen.  (BCP page 840)

ANNUAL MEETING RESULTS

St. Peter’s, Salisbury Parish’s Annual Meeting was held this past Sunday, April 19 in the Parish Hall with 76 parishioners attending.  Preceding the meeting was a wonderful parish breakfast hosted by the Fellowship and Hospitality Committee.  Many thanks to those who cooked, served, set up and cleaned up for that event.

At the Annual Meeting, Linda Abbott, Sharon Clark and Linda Hurley were elected as new members of the Vestry.  Elected as 2016 Diocesan Convention Delegates were Bravard Cornbrooks, Carolyn Jenkins, and John Phillips.  Atif Gaddis, Linda Hurley and Laura McCarthy were elected as Alternates.

Treasurer Sean Fahey reported that our financial situation continues to improve, with increased giving, although dealing with some deferred maintenance items has increased expenses.

Father David recognized the good service of Mike Bloxham, Pete Evans, and Carolyn Jenkins who have now completed their Vestry terms, and Mac Peverley for his service as Senior Warden.

Also recognized was Ruth Anne Oartel who stepped down this year as Altar Guild Directress after many years of faithful service.  She received a standing ovation from the meeting.

Copies of the Annual Meeting Report packets were handed out, and extra copies are available this Sunday on the table outside the parlor for those unable to make it to the meeting, and from the Parish Office.  Father David’s remarks to the parish are also available.

SHARON CLARK ELECTED JUNIOR WARDEN

At a meeting of the new Vestry immediately after the Annual meeting, Sharon Clark was elected Junior Warden, Sean Fahey re-elected Treasurer, and Carole DiPietro re-elected Registrar.  For the second year of her two year term, Mary Phillips now becomes Senior Warden.

FATHER DAVID TRAVELING TO PROVINCE III SYNOD MEETING

As one of the Diocese of Easton’s Deputies to General Convention, Father David will be traveling to Martinsburg, WV Sunday afternoon through Tuesday for the Province III Synod meeting.  He will be back in the Parish office next Wednesday.  Province III consists of 13 Dioceses in the Mid Atlantic who come together in a meeting called a Synod annually. There will be briefings on the upcoming General Convention in late June from the Presiding Bishop, House of Deputies President, General Convention Secretary and others.  If you would like to follow the preparations for General Convention and see what resolutions have already been filed, go to
www.generalconvention.org. Father David is planning to conduct a series of Adult Forums on General Convention in May between the 9am and 11am services.

NEW CHAIRS FOR PROPERTY, STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEES

Mac Peverley has stepped down as chair of both the Property and Stewardship Committees.  Fr. David has appointed Amy Maull as the new Chair of the Property Committee and Atif Gaddis as the new Chair of the Stewardship Committee.  Many thanks to Mac for his leadership on these important committees.  Thanks also to Amy and Atif for agreeing to serve in these leadership positions.

NOTE FROM THE RECTOR:  THANK YOU CATHY!

Today is Administrative Professionals Day and we take this opportunity on this day to thank Cathy Parsons, Our Parish Secretary, for her great work and dedication to our parish.  She is responsible among her many duties for all our worship bulletins and announcements, sending out publications like Peter’s Post, the wonderful slides on our new monitor outside the parlor, sorting mail and working with the bookkeeper to process and send out checks every week, coordinating building activities, and keeping things running smoothly in the office. Her cheerful and professional demeanor and deep devotion to Our Lord create a wonderful atmosphere of Christian hospitality to those who visit the Parish office or call on the phone.  Thank you Cathy for helping to make St. Peter’s a wonderful and inviting place and for all your efforts to support our mission and ministries.

-Fr. David
