ST. PETER’S SHELTERING THE HOMELESS
I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing (Matt 25:35-36)

Today is sock day at the men’s emergency shelter, and when the homeless men in our community check in to our Parish Hall this evening at St. Peter’s for a hot meal and a warm place to stay on yet another cold night this week, they will be offered a new pair of warm socks as well.  Sock day marks the middle of our parish ministry of hosting the emergency men’s shelter, a tradition we have kept for many years, working with churches in our community to ensure that in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ shelter, food, drink and clothing are offered to those in need.  This has been an unusually cold and stormy week, and we are seeing high numbers of men coming in to the shelter – 32 to 35 a night.

These guests are given a safe and warm place to stay, and volunteers from the parish and other places are volunteering to staff the shelter and provide the meals.  Our Trailblazers Youth Group arrived in force on Sunday night to cook dinner and make lunches for our guests.  Co-leaders Bob Souza and Scoot Mahler have been doing a great job in providing supplies and keeping things organized.  Tonight parishioners from our sister parish St. Alban’s will be providing the meals. Others have been volunteering throughout the week to care for the homeless in our community. The shelter continues through Saturday morning when it will move to Wicomico Presbyterian.

Please keep our homeless guests and those who are caring for them in your prayers as we work to carry out Jesus’ commands to be there for those in need, to be the body of Christ to the world.

SECOND NURSERY ATTENDANT HIRED
St. Peter’s welcomes Abbey Johnson as the second Sunday morning Nursery Attendant.  She began her work with our current attendant Nicole Widner last Sunday and will be in the nursery for the 9am services.  Abbey will not only help with making sure we have adequate support for our growing nursery but will also make sure that there will always be coverage, even during Spring and Summer break times.
Welcome Abbey!

HAND BELL CHOIR PERFORMS SUNDAY
St. Peter’s Grace Notes Hand Bell Choir is scheduled to perform at the 11am worship service this Sunday.

LABRYINTH WALK MARCH 25
As part of our Spiritual Saturdays occasional offerings we will have a Labyrinth Walk and Meditation on Saturday morning, March 25 at 10am in the Parish Hall.  All are welcome.

WALK THE WAY OF THE CROSS  -- MARCH 24 AT 7PM
There are two more opportunities this Lent to participate in the half hour liturgy of the Stations of the Cross at St. Peter’s:  Friday, March 24 and April 7.  Retrace and remember Jesus passion from his being condemned to death and his walk to Mt. Calvary to his crucifixion and burial in the tomb. All are encouraged to participate.

TUESDAY EVENING LENTEN SERIES
The Tuesday Evening Lenten Series:  “5 Marks of Love: Living Life Marked as Christ’s Own” continues this Tuesday and all are invited to participate.  There’s a potluck at 6pm – please bring a dish to share – and the class gets underway at 6:40pm.  We meet back in the Parish Hall this Tueday when the Mark of Mission to be discussed at the next meeting will be TEACH: Teach, baptize and nurture new believers.

If you are unable to attend the class but would like to follow the course during Lent, you can do so by going to
www.5marksoflove.org and view the videos and materials for the week.  Extra workbooks are available for you as well on the table at coffee hour this Sunday.

DIOCESAN RETREAT:  A CONVERSATION ABOUT OUR FUTURE – APRIL 1
Bishop Santosh Marray is calling the Diocese of Easton to be “a Mission Shaped Diocese and Prayer Centered Church” in these times of increasing demands on us to be relevant in addressing the needs of the wider community. He is also calling us to be vigilant and strategic in preparing the baptized community of faith to live into our Lord’s call to serve the mission of God on the Eastern Shore.

In keeping with the momentum and spirit emerging out of the 149th Annual Diocesan Convention, the Diocese’s Commission on Ministry is organizing a Day of Conversation aimed at drawing from the wisdom of the community.  Its goal is to further develop the components in ‘God’s Three Year Call,’ and the ‘Celtic Mission Wheel’ concept arising from the Bishop’s Convention Address, and to follow up on conversations at convention. This one day retreat is geared towards those involved in Diocesan Leadership and Diocesan Ministries. The retreat will take place at Old Wye – Wye Parish, Wye Mills on
Saturday April 1, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Information is available at www.dioceseofeaston.org/leadershipday or by calling the Diocesan office at 410-822-1919.

DIOCESAN INTEGRITY EUCHARIST
Integrity of the Eastern Shore invites all to a festival celebration of the Feast of the Annunciation on Friday, March 24 at 6 pm at Trinity Cathedral.  The guest preacher will be the Rev. Fr. Alistair So, rector of All Hallows Episcopal Church, Davidsonville, Maryland. Please bring a light snack/finger foods to share for a time of fellowship after the Eucharist if you are able.
