Blessing of the Animals @ St. Peter’s for 3rd Fri. Downtown

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will provide animal blessings in the courtyard on St. Peter’s Street in downtown Salisbury as part of August 15th’s Third Friday “Dog Days of Summer.” The blessings will take place at 5:30pm and 6:15pm.

“The Blessing of Animals is a tradition that is associated with St. Francis of Assisi,” said the Rev. David Michaud, St. Peter’s Rector and the priest who will preside at the blessings. “Since Third Friday this month will have a lot of pets walking about, we thought we’d come to the animals and invite them and their owners receive a blessing.” St. Peter’s is a half block walk from the Downtown Plaza.

The public and their animal companions are all invited to attend. The blessing ceremony is short, beginning with Scripture passages and prayers giving thanks for all creation and ending with an individual blessing for each animal.

Pets should be on a leash or in a carrier.

Historic St. Peter’s Church (circa. 1887) will also be open for tours August 15 from 5pm to 7pm.
